Tina Datta (born November 27, 1991) is an Indian television actress best recognized for her work in Hindi. She rose to prominence as Ichcha in the drama series Uttaran, for which she received the Producers Guild Award for Best Actress. She later appeared in the stunt-based reality show Khatron Ke Khiladi 7 and the reality series Bigg Boss 16.

Family and life

Datta was born on November 27, 1991 in Kolkata to Madhumita Datta and Tapan Datta. Debraj, her older brother, is her only sibling.

Datta is a big fan of yoga and pilates. She opted to transition from functional and weight training to yoga during the lockdown. In addition, the actress is skilled at pole dancing and kickboxing.

Career

Early roles for children artists (1996–2008)

Datta made her debut in the show Sister Nivedita when she was five years old. A year later, she made her film debut as a child artist in Pita Maata Santan, a Bengali film. She went on to appear in more Bengali films, including Dus Number Bari and Sagarkanya. She has also appeared in various Bengali television programs, including Khela. Datta co-starred with Aishwarya Rai in Rituparno Ghosh's film Chokher Bali. She also appeared as a young Lalita in Vidya Balan and Saif Ali Khan's 2005 cult film Parineeta. Datta auditioned for the role of in Kolkata, and Pradeep Sarkar, who was seeking for a Bengali face to perform the character, thought she was right. She played Kumkum Roy Choudhary in the Bengali mythology drama television series Durga in 2008.

Recognition and breakthrough (2009–2021)

Datta appeared as Ichcha Bundela and Meethi Bundela opposite Nandish Sandhu and Mrunal Jain in Uttaran, Colors TV's third longest-running Indian television series, from 2009 to 2015. Her portrayal drew considerable praise and multiple awards, including the Producers Guild Award for Best Actress in a Drama Series.

In 2016, she competed in Colors TV's stunt-based reality show Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 7, finishing in 12th place. Datta portrayed Dhamini in the mythology drama Karmaphal Daata Shani from 2017 to 2018. She starred as Jhanvi Mourya and Kundani Roy in &TV's paranormal romantic drama series Daayan from 2018 to 2019.

In 2020, she starred as Ketki Maheshwari opposite Rajeev Khandelwal in ZEE5's crime thriller web series Naxalbari, which follows an STF agent on a mission to put down a Naxal insurrection in Gadchiroli. According to India Today, "Tina Datta breathes new life into Ketki, a translator who works with government agencies." For her role in the series, she received the Global Fame Award for Best OTT Debut. Datta made her music video debut in 2021, appearing in Mika Singh's Bengali song Durga Maa Elo Re.

Bigg Boss and additional work (2022–present)

She appeared in Colors TV's captivity reality show Bigg Boss 16 from 2022 to 2023. She ended in ninth place after 119 days in the house. Datta was the season's second highest paid contestant. She has been starring as Surili Ahluwalia on Sony TV's Hum Rahe Na Rahe Hum, opposite Jay Bhanushali, from April 2023.
