Surbhi Jyoti (born May 29, 1988) is an Indian actress who has appeared in both Hindi television and Punjabi films. In 2010, she made her acting debut as Sona in Akiyaan To Door Jayen Na. She gained to prominence after playing Zoya Farooqui in Zee TV's romantic Qubool Hai, for which she received multiple prizes, including the ITA Award for GR8! Performer Of The Year. (Female).
Jyoti rose to prominence after playing the shape-shifting serpent Bela Sehgal in Colors TV's hit supernatural Naagin 3, for which she was nominated for Best Actress at the Indian Television Academy Awards. She made her Hindi film debut in 2021, opposite Jassie Gill in Ssaurabh Tyagi's comedy-drama Kya Meri Sonam Gupta Bewafa Hai?
Jyoti was born in the Indian state of Punjab. Shiv Jyoti Public School was her primary school, and Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya was her secondary school. She participated in discussions and got honors as a student at Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya. Surbhi graduated from Apeejay College of Fine Arts with a degree in Economics and a Master's degree in English Literature.
Jyoti began her career in regional theatre and films. She has also worked as a radio DJ. She has appeared in Punjabi films such as Ik Kudi Punjab Di, Raula Pai Gaya, and Munde Patiala De, as well as Punjabi television shows such as Akiyaan To Door Jayen Na and Kach Diyan Wanga.
Jyoti was cast in the television serial Qubool Hai, which was produced by 4 Lions Films and aired on Zee TV at the end of 2012. She was cast as Zoya Farooqui. She was named GR8! Performer of the Year—Female at the Indian Television Academy Awards and Best Début Actress at the Zee Gold Awards 2013 for her depiction of the character. She also shared the prize for Best Jodi with Karan Singh Grover. Qubool Hai was rebooted in 2014, with her playing the dual roles of Sanam and Seher. She finished 16th in an annual poll conducted by the UK-based weekly journal Eastern Eye in 2014.
She also co-hosted three seasons of the romantic drama Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya with Meiyang Chang in 2015. Karanvir Bohra and Jyoti received the Best Onscreen Jodi Award at the Zee Gold Awards 2015. Qubool Hai introduced a 25-year gap in 2015, after which she played Mahira, her sixth part on the show. She came in 17th place in an annual survey conducted by the UK-based weekly journal Eastern Eye in 2015. Qubool Hai concluded in January 2016. Along with several other television performers, she hosted the travel-themed web show Desi Explorers Taiwan in 2016. In 2016, she appeared in 4 Lions Films' Ishqbaaaz as Mallika Kabeer Choudhary, a businesswoman who is also an architect, alongside Shaleen Malhotra. She co-hosted another travel-themed online show, Desi Explorers Yas Island, alongside several other television actors in September 2016.
In 2017, she starred in Tanhaiyan, a web series produced by 4 Lions Films, alongside Barun Sobti as Meera Kapoor, a nonjudgmental and emotionally vulnerable fashion designer. On February 14, 2017, all episodes of the web series were made available on Hotstar. She appeared as Geetanjali Singh Shekhari, a girl from a royal family, in Star Plus's psychological thriller show Koi Laut Ke Aaya Hai in 2017. She was cast opposite Shoaib Ibrahim, and other cast members were Sharad Kelkar, Sreejita De, and Shaleen Malhotra. The show concluded on June 18, 2017.
Jyoti played Bela Sehgal in Balaji Telefilms' Naagin 3 as the primary female lead, which premiered on Colors TV in June 2018. The show had strong ratings and finished in May 2019. She starred in Yeh Jaadu Hai Jinn Ka in 2020.
Jyoti appeared in the VYRL Originals music video "Aaj Bhi" in 2020, alongside actor Ali Fazal. In 2020, she appeared in another music video, "Judaiyaan," alongside Darshan Raval.
In March 2021, she made her digital comeback with the online series Qubool Hai 2.0, a reboot version of her popular Zee TV drama Qubool Hai, alongside actor Karan Singh Grover, marking their second collaboration after 8 years, repeating their roles as Zoya and Asad, respectively.
Surbhi Jyoti will make her Bollywood debut with Jassie Gill in "Kya Meri Sonam Gupta Bewafa Hai?" in 2021.
