Shriya Pilgaonkar is a theatrical performer, director, producer, and actor from India. She is the daughter of Sachin and Supriya Pilgaonkar, both actors.
Shriya Pilgaonkar is the only child of renowned Marathi actors Sachin and Supriya Pilgaonkar. Pilgaonkar trained to be a professional swimmer as a child, winning multiple medals while still in school. Pilgaonkar took Japanese studies as a child because she hoped to become a translator or linguist when she grew up. Pilgaonkar then changed her mind and completed her bachelor's degree in Sociology at St. Xavier's College in Mumbai. Pilgaonkar learned Kathak as a child as well.
Career Acting
Pilgaonkar made his television debut at the age of five in the Hindi series Tu Tu Main Main as a boy named Bittu. Pilgaonkar made her stage debut in Karan Shetty's 10-minute short play Freedom Of Love in 2012. The NCPA's Short and Sweet Festival included the play. She performed in the play by acting, singing, and dancing.
Pilgaonkar made her big screen debut in 2013 with the Marathi film Ekulti Ek, following her performance in Freedom of Love. Swara is the daughter of Arun Deshpande (Sachin Pilgaonkar) and Nandini (Supriya Pilgaonkar) in the film. Her father (Sachin Pilgaonkar), who wrote, directed, and produced the film, offered her the role of Swara. "He has been credited with launching many a talent, including my mother," Pilgaonkar remarked. I didn't seek a favour when he offered me the film. But he corrected me, stating, "I am not stupid enough to invest resources arbitrarily." "Experience-wise, I am a beginner, but I believe it is an exciting time to be in the industry," she added. There is so much going on and changing. "I am honoured to be working on my first film with my father." This film debut earned her six accolades. She earned the Maharashtra State Government Award for Best Debut Actress at the 51st Maharashtra State Film Awards. Critics gave the film mixed to good reviews. The Times of India critic gave the film three out of five stars, saying, "It's the perfect launch for his (Sachin Pilgaonkar) daughter Shriya into films, and she does not disappoint."
Pilgaonkar went on to work on additional stage and film productions after her appearance in Ekulti Ek. Akarsh Khurana, a prominent theatre actor, approached her to star in Internal Affairs and Common People. After acting in both, she was offered a role in the French film Un plus une, directed by Oscar winner Claude Lelouch. She portrayed Ayanna, an Indian dancer and performer, in the film.
Pilgaonkar made her Bollywood debut in the 2016 film Fan, which was written and directed by Maneesh Sharma and produced by Aditya Chopra under the banner of Yash Raj Films. Pilgaonkar was chosen for her role from a pool of 750 girls by Maneesh Sharma, and she considered working with Shah Rukh Khan to be a major accomplishment. She plays Neha, a Delhi-based contact centre girl and Gaurav's companion, in the film. She was filming for both Fan and Un plus une at the same moment. Pilgaonkar was overwhelmed by the reception to Fan after its premiere. "Honestly, I didn't want to have any expectations because it was a small role and we had two Shah Rukhs in the film," she remarked of the film's reception, "but I am so happy that everyone took notice and has acknowledged my performance."
Shriya played Sweety Gupta in the Amazon Prime India programme Mirzapur in 2018. The show was a huge success, and Shriya quickly became a household name. Shriya later revealed that her character would not be back after the first season. She appeared on two Voot series in 2020: The Gone Game and Crackdown.
Producer and director
Pilgaonkar is a director and producer of short films in addition to being an actress. She attended Harvard University for summer school in 2012, which inspired her to create her own short films. "Once I felt confident, I directed Painted Signal, a short film, and Panchgavya," a documentary she co-directed with Hana Kitasei, she said in an interview with Mumbai Mirror. It investigates the plight of cows as they roam the streets of Bikaner, Rajasthan. Dresswala, a short film she co-directed and edited with Siddharth Joglekar, was an official selection at the 2012 Mumbai Film Festival. Both Painted Signal and Dresswala garnered mixed reviews and were screened at international film festivals.
Pilgaonkar was in The Times Of India's Most Desirable Women List and was placed No. 40 in 2020.
Pilgaonkar has modelled and is well-known in the advertising industry. She has appeared in advertising alongside superstars like as Shahid Kapoor and Vikrant Massey.
