Park So-dam is a South Korean actress who was born on September 8, 1991. She rose to prominence in the 2015 film The Priests, as well as the TV series Cinderella with Four Knights (2016) and Record of Youth (2017). (2020). She rose to international prominence for her performance in the critically acclaimed Korean comedy thriller film Parasite, which won the Palme d'Or at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival as well as the Academy Award for Best Picture.
When Park was in high school, she saw the musical Grease and became interested in acting. Park began her career in independent films while still in university after being rejected from approximately seventeen auditions. Park is well-known for her work in independent film, having appeared in the Korean Academy of Film Arts feature Ingtoogi: Battle of the Internet Trolls and the indie Steel Cold Winter, the latter of which garnered attention when it premiered at the Busan International Film Festival. Park also appeared in the mainstream films Scarlet Innocence and The Royal Tailor.
She broke into the mainstream in 2015 after making a strong impression in The Silenced, for which she won Best Supporting Actress at the Busan Film Critics Awards. She was then cast in the critically acclaimed mystery thriller The Priests after appearing in box office hits Veteran and The Throne. Her performance as an evil-possessed high school student earned her multiple nominations for Best New Actress.
Park's filmography has also expanded to include television appearances. In 2016, she starred in the medical drama A Beautiful Mind on KBS2 and the romantic comedy Cinderella with Four Knights on tvN.
Park appeared in Bong Joon-black ho's comedy Parasite in 2019. The film received critical acclaim worldwide and was a box office success in South Korea. She gained recognition for her role as a crafty, whipsmart younger sister of the family, and became known for her "Jessica Jingle". Park co-starred in the variety show Three Meals a Day: Mountain Village with Yum Jung-ah and Yoon Se-ah the same year.
Park was cast as an aspiring makeup artist in the 2020 youth drama Record of Youth. In the same year, Park appeared in the camping variety show Gamsung Camping alongside Park Na-rae, Ahn Young-mi, Son Na-eun, and Solar. Park later made a comeback in the stage play The Student and Mr. Henri, which she performed in 2017.
Park returned to the big screen in three years in 2022, playing a professional delivery driver in the crime action film Special Delivery. In 2023, she played a Korean secretary to a high-ranking Japanese officer in Lee Hae-spy young's action film Phantom.
Private life
On December 13, 2021, it was revealed that Park So-dam had been diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer during a routine health checkup and had undergone surgery based on the medical staff's recommendation. Park will concentrate on regaining her health. Park's agency confirmed on February 7, 2022, that Park had just recovered from COVID-19.
