Nushrratt Bharuccha (born Nushrat Bharucha on May 17, 1985) is a Hindi film actress. Love Sex Aur Dhokha (2010), Pyaar Ka Punchnama (2011), Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 (2015), Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety (2018), Dream Girl (2019), Chhorii (2021), Janhit Mein Jaari (2022), and Ram Setu (2022) are among her significant works.

Nushrat Bharucha was born on 17 May 1985 in Mumbai to a Dawoodi Bohra household. She is the only child of Tanvir Bharucha, a businessman, and Tasneem Bharucha, a housewife. Nushrat holds a Fine Arts degree from Jai Hind College in Mumbai.

Career 2002–2014: Early career challenges

Bharuccha made her acting debut in the 2002 television series Kittie Party, playing a minor role. Her debut Hindi film was Jai Santoshi Maa (2006), and in 2007, she appeared in Zubeen Garg's music video "Zindagi Kahin Gum Hai." She appeared in Kal Kissne Dekha (2009) and Taj Mahal (2010) in Telugu. Her final television appearance was as Drishika Kashyap in Seven.

Bharuccha made her feature film debut in Dibakar Banerjee and Ekta Kapoor's anthology Love Sex Aur Dhokha (2010), which went relatively well. She next acted in Luv Ranjan's directorials Pyaar Ka Punchnama (2011) and Akaash Vani (2013), both of which flopped, as did her following flop Darr @ the Mall (2014) starring Jimmy Sheirgill.

From 2015 until the present: Breakthrough

Bharuccha gained to prominence after appearing in Ranjan's Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 (2015) for the third time opposite Aaryan. The film became her first commercial success, grossing over 88 crore globally. Her other films, Meeruthiya Gangsters (2015) and Valeba Raja (2016), also underperformed.

She shot to fame in 2018 after playing a grey-haired character opposite Aaryan and Sunny Nijjar in Ranjan and Bhushan Kumar's romcom Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety. It was an unexpected blockbuster at the box office, grossing 150 crores worldwide. She maintained her worldwide popularity in Kapoor, Bhushan Kumar, and Raaj Shaandilyaa's 200-crore comedy Dream Girl (2019), in which she played Ayushmann Khurrana's love interest. Both Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety and Dream Girl entered India's 100 Crore Club and are among her highest-grossing films.

Also in 2019, Bharuccha appeared in the Milap Zaveri and Bhushan Kumar's romance thriller Marjaavaan, singing an item song "Peeyo Datt Ke" alongside Sidharth Malhotra. She appeared in two music videos, "Baarishein" by Atif Aslam and "Ishq Tera" by Guru Randhawa.

Due of the COVID-19 pandemic in India, which caused theaters to close for an extended period of time, Bharuccha's next sports film, Chhalaang (2020), directed by Hansal Mehta and produced by Bhushan Kumar and Ajay Devgn, was released straight on OTT platform Amazon Prime Video. She starred as Rajkummar Rao's ladylove in the film, which received mixed reviews.

In 2021, she appeared in two OTT films and starred in Yo Yo Honey Singh's music video "Saiyaan Ji." She first appeared in Karan Johar and Raj Mehta's Netflix anthology film Ajeeb Daastaans, followed by Vishal Furia and Bhushan Kumar's Amazon Prime horror film Chhorii, both of which garnered her critical acclaim. Chhorii was her debut film as a lone female protagonist.

Bharuccha first starred in the love triangle Hurdang (2022) opposite Sunny Kaushal and Vijay Varma the following year. It was directed by Nikhil Nagesh Tiwari and produced by Bhushan Kumar, and it was a massive box office failure. That same year, she received critical acclaim for her performance in the female-centric social comedy Janhit Mein Jaari.

upcoming movies

She starred alongside Akshay Kumar and Jacqueline Fernandez in the historical drama Ram Setu, which was released on Diwali 2022. Chhorii 2, a sequel to Chhorii, will come after this. She will also appear in Johar and Mehta's 2023 comedy Selfiee alongside Akshay Kumar, Diana Penty, and Emraan Hashmi.

Private life

Due to numerological reasons, Bharucha changed her name spelling to Nushrratt Bharuccha in June 2020.
