Minami Hamabe is a Japanese actress who was born on August 29, 2000 in Ishikawa Prefecture. She rose to prominence in the popular live-action film Let Me Eat Your Pancreas.
Biography
Minami's career began when she won the New Generation Award at the 7th Toho Cinderella Audition. She has since appeared in a number of films and dramas, many of which are live-action.
Minami rose to prominence in Japan for her performance in the live-action film Let Me Eat Your Pancreas, which chronicles the narrative of a terminally ill girl's connection with an introverted male student who discovers her condition by chance. In 2017, the film was the fifth highest-grossing film in Japan. Minami received the 41st Japan Academy Film Prize's Newcomer Of The Year Award. At the same ceremony, the film was nominated for Picture of the Year.
Despite her youth, Minami has been in two films that have made over one billion yen in Japan.
Minami appeared in the 2019 film The Great War of Archimedes. The film grossed over 1.9 billion yen in Japan, making it one of the highest-grossing films of 2019.
Minami co-starred in the live-action version of the manga Cursed in Love in 2020, alongside Ryusei Yokohama and Yukino Kishii.
Minami will also appear in the 2020 film Murders At The House of Death. The film has earned more than one billion yen and is the 20th highest-grossing picture in Japan for the year 2020.
Minami will appear in the live-action film The Promised Neverland in December 2020. Since then, the film has grossed over 2.1 billion yen in Japan, making it one of the highest-grossing films of 2021.
Minami appeared in the 2022 drama Dr. White. The drama is based on Shin Kibayashi's novels Dr. White: Senrigan no Karute (published by Kadokawa in 2015) and Dr. White: Kami no Shindan (released by Kadokawa in 2019).
Minami also participated in the SP drama Seito ga Jinsei wa Yarinaoseru Gakko with Sho Hirano.
Minami co-starred with Yukino Kishii in the April 2022 release One Day, You Will Reach the Sea (Yagate Umi e to Todoku).
NHK has picked Minami as the 108th Asadora heroine, in which she will co-star with Ryunosuke Kamiki. She was chosen by NHK without an audition and will play the wife of the hero, Kamiki. Ranman () is the name of the Asadora. The production will commence in the autumn of 2023.
She will appear in the live-action Shin Kamen Rider film in 2023.
Minami owns a Pomeranian pet dog named "Popu-chan" in her personal life. Takumi Kitamura and Kanna Hashimoto are two of her closest pals.
