Michael Sheen will play the lead role in the upcoming Agatha Christie TV drama, while Rebekah Vardy, a.k.a. Hermione

Channel 4 has revealed a teaser image for the new drama portraying the iconic “WAGatha Christie” scandal.

The two-part “drama-documentary” was characterised as a “unique” production when it was first unveiled in July, with the most amazing and outrageous incidents from the High Court defamation case being reproduced using official court transcripts.

On Wednesday night, a first-look shot from the play was revealed, with This Is England’s Chanel Cresswell and Harry Potter actor Natalia Tena in the major roles of Coleen Rooney and Rebekah Vardy, respectively.

Meanwhile, Michael Sheen will portray Coleen’s barrister David Sherborne, having previously received accolades for his depiction of Chris Tarrant in the Charles Ingram thriller Quiz.
Completing the major cast as Rebekah Vardy’s barrister Hugh Tomlinson is Simon Coury, whose earlier roles include The Professor And The Madman.
Although a release date has yet to be decided, Channel 4 has said the two-part show Vardy vs. Rooney: A Courtroom Drama will air later in the year.

The long-running “WAGatha Christie” controversy involving the two footballers’ wives started began three years ago, when Coleen made a now-infamous message on Twitter claiming that Rebekah’s Instagram account was the source of multiple “false stories” about her being leaked to The Sun.

Rebekah had always maintained her innocence in the matter and later sued Coleen for libel, with things coming to a climax in July of this year when a judge found in Coleen’s favour after a week-long hearing.

A Disney+ documentary about the long-running drama between the two ladies is also reported to be in the works, with “exclusive access” to Coleen.
