Meryem Sarah Uzerli (born 12 August 1983) is a Turkish-German actress who rose to prominence as Hürrem Sultan in the Turkish TV series Muhteşem Yüzyl (2011-2013), for which she received critical acclaim and numerous awards, including a Golden Butterfly Award. Her notable film roles include Ayşe in Kovan, a beekeeping story.
Uzerli was born on August 12, 1983, in Kassel, West Germany, to Hüseyin, a Turkish actress, and Ursula, a German actress. She has two older brothers and an older sister, jazz musician Canan. Croatia is where her great-grandmother is from. She holds dual Turkish-German citizenship as a result of her father's nationality. She made her acting debut in minor roles in German films. She later appeared in the television series Notruf Hafenkante (2010) and Ein Fall für zwei (2010) in minor roles (2010). Uzerli is also well-known for her roles in German films such as Journey of No Return (2010) and Jetzt aber Ballett (2012). (2010). Muhteşem Yüzyl's Career 2011, 2012, and 2013.
Uzerli's most well-known breakthrough role was as Hürrem Sultan in the Taylan Brothers' historical television drama series Muhteşem Yüzyl. Meral Okay, the series' screenwriter, and Timur Savc, the series' producer, chose her after an eight-month search for the best actress for this role. "Until one day the phone rang, I was invited for a casting in Turkey, and then I started living in Istanbul almost full time," she said of her selection. During the filming of Muhteşem Yüzyl, she lived in a hotel for two years. She co-starred with Halit Ergenç, Okan Yalabk, and Nebahat ehre in the lead role. In 2012, she received the Golden Butterfly Award for Best Actress for this role. She left the show in 2013 due to health issues, reportedly a burnout. Vahide Perçin was cast in to play an older version of Hürrem beginning with episode 103.
2014–present: Annemin Yaras and Gecenin Kraliçesi
Uzerli signed a contract with O3, MBC Group's Turkish production company, at the end of 2014. She was still living in Berlin in December 2014, but she planned to relocate to Istanbul. Star TV released a video and a photo of Uzerli in December 2014, introducing her as one of its stars in 2015. In October 2015, she was named one of the TV stars for 2016. "I am trying to build on my international success within any industry where actors are respected as artists, and where I can find great scripts that allow me to delve into a story that leaves the here and now behind," she says of her future. In March 2015, it was announced that Uzerli would co-star in her new TV series with Murat Yldrm. Gecenin Kraliçesi was later announced as the title of the series. It is directed by the Taylan Brothers, who also directed Muhteşem Yüzyl. Some scenes for this show were shot in Cannes, France. The shooting was later resumed in Rize, Turkey. In January 2016, it debuted on Star TV.
In addition to her television appearances, Uzerli appeared in the 2016 film Annemin Yaras. In March of 2016, the film was released. Ozan Güven, Okan Yalabk, and Belçim Bilgin are among her co-stars. She appeared as a guest on Eşkiya Dünyaya Hükümdar Olmaz between 2016 and 2017. In 2017, she continued her film career by starring in Cingöz Recai alongside Kenan Mirzalolu, despite the film's box office failure. Later that same year, she co-starred in the film teki Taraf with zcan Deniz and Asl Enver. Uzerli auditioned for a role in the third season of Netflix's original series Dark in 2019. She also starred in the film Kovan, the proceeds of which were donated to Haluk Levent's Ahbap foundation.
Private life
After leaving Turkey, Uzerli revealed that she had ended her relationship with her boyfriend, Can Ateş, after discovering that he had cheated on her. She claimed to be pregnant and eager to give birth to her child. She gave birth to a daughter on February 10, 2014. On January 8, 2021, a second daughter was born.
Uzerli is also a model, having appeared on the covers of Elle, Marie Claire, and InStyle magazines in Turkey, as well as in commercials for brands such as Elidor.
