Sandra Ma Sichun (Chinese:, born 14 March 1988) is a Hui ethnic Chinese actress. She is most known for her appearances in the films The Left Ear (2015) and Soul Mate (2016), for which she shared the Golden Horse Award for most Leading Actress with co-star Zhou Dongyu, as well as the television series Love Me If You Dare (2015) and Age of Legends (2016). Ma was born on March 14, 1988, in Bengbu, Anhui, to trader Jiang Wenjuan (). Jiang Wenli, her aunt, is a well-known actress. Ma received his bachelor's degree from the Communication University of China.
Career Beginnings
Ma Sichun's debut as a child actress began at the age of seven, when she participated in The Winter of Three Persons, starring Jiang Wenli and Zhao Jun. She starred in The Grand Mansion Gate five years later, at the age of thirteen. Jiang Wenli, her aunt, appears in both films.
Ma rose to prominence after appearing on the cover of Rao Xueman's novel Joy & Sorrow. Following that, she was cast as the female lead in the television series Lover, based on the novel Daddy, I have your baby, by director Shen Yan. Ma earned the Golden Phoenix Award for Best Newcomer in 2012 for her work in the film Time Flies Soundlessly.
2015–present: Increasing recognition and popularity
Ma rose to prominence after appearing in the coming-of-age film The Left Ear, directed by Alec Su. Her work as the rebellious and adventurous Li Bala won plaudits from critics and she was nominated as Best Supporting Actress at the Golden Horse Awards. The next year, she co-starred with Wallace Huo in the smash criminal thriller Love Me If You Dare, which helped propel her to stardom.
Ma appeared in the 2016 adventure film Time Raiders, which was based on the popular tomb-raiding novel series Daomu Biji. She starred in the romantic film Soul Mate the same year, playing the attractive, compassionate, yet rebellious protagonist. Ma and her co-star Zhou Dongyu shared the Golden Horse Award for Best Leading Actress.
Ma was cast as the female protagonist in the third episode of Tsui Hark's Detective Dee film series in 2017. She also appeared in the college romance film Nuts.
Ma co-starred in the crime action drama Age of Legends with William Chan in 2018. Forbes China named Ma to their 30 Under 30 Asia 2017 list, which included 30 notable persons under the age of 30 who have had a significant impact in their industries. Ma has also appeared in the Chinese variety show Who's the Keyman?
Ma appeared in both Lou Ye's crime thriller The Shadow Play and Rao Xueman's romance drama film Somewhere Winter in 2019. The same year, she was cast in Ann Hui's period romance film Love After Love. Ma co-starred in the romantic comedy drama Mr. Fighting with Deng Lun on television.
Ma was cast as a doctor in the military romance drama You Are My Hero in 2020. She appeared in the youth drama film Wild Grass the same year.
