Li Qin (Chinese: ; pinyin: L Qn, born September 27, 1990) is a Chinese actress known as Sweet Li.
Li is well-known for her roles in the films The Dream of Red Mansions (2010), The Founding of a Party (2011), White Deer Plain (2017), Princess Agents (2017), Joy of Life (2019), Jade Dynasty (2019), The Captain (2019), The Song of Glory (2020), The Wolf (2020), Warm Hug (2020), My Dear Guardian (2021), and Tears in Heaven (2021). Early years
On September 27, 1990, Li was born in Bacheng Town, Kunshan City, Jiangsu Province. Li began studying Chinese traditional opera at the age of 11 at Shipai Central School.
In 2008, she graduated from Shanghai Theatre Academy's Affiliated Chinese Opera School, where she majored in kunqu.
Career 2010–2016: debut and rising stardom
Li rose to prominence in 2010 as Xue Baochai in the television series The Dream of Red Mansions, which was based on Cao Xueqin's novel of the same name. For her performance, she received the TVS Award for Best New Actress.
In 2011, Li made her film debut as Yang Kaihui in The Founding of a Party. At the 31st Hundred Flowers Awards, she was nominated for Best Newcomer. In 1921, she reprised her role as Yang Kaihui in another patriotic tribute production in China.
In 2012, Li starred in The Watchful Sky, a romantic melodrama television series that won the Gold Angel Award at the 9th Sino-US Film Festival. In 2013, Li starred in the romance dramas Shining Days and The Return of a Princess, both of which received positive reviews.
Li was named the Most Promising Actress at the China TV Drama Awards in 2014 for her performance in the romance drama If I Love You. Li starred in her first historical drama, My Amazing Bride, in 2015, as a quirky and endearing heiress.
Acclaim and mainstream popularity from 2017 to the present
Li appeared in the television adaptation of the classic novel White Deer Plain in 2017. According to critics, her performance as Tian Xiao'e was a "pitch-perfect illustration of a rural woman's miserable life," and stood in stark contrast to her previous roles as youthful and innocent characters. For her performance, Li was nominated for a Magnolia Award for Best Supporting Actress. The same year, Li starred as a princess from a fallen kingdom in the historical action drama Princess Agents. The drama was a huge success, and Li's popularity skyrocketed as a result. Li debuted on the Forbes China Celebrity 100 list that year, ranking 100th.
Li was nominated for a Hundred Flowers Award for Best Actress in 2018 for her role as Yang Kaihui in the patriotic film The Founding of an Army. The following year, she appeared as Fragrant Concubine in the palace drama Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace. Forbes China named Li to their 30 Under 30 Asia 2017 list, which included 30 influential people under the age of 30 who have made a significant impact in their fields.
In 2019, Li starred as the female lead Lu Xueqi in Jade Dynasty, a film adaptation of the xianxia novel Zhu Xian. She then co-starred as a flight attendant in the aviation disaster film The Captain, for which she won Best Supporting Actress at the Tokyo International Film Festival's Gold Crane Awards. She gained attention for her role as the drumstick lady in the historical political drama Joy of Life the same year.
Li made her first appearance in CCTV's New Year's Gala in 2020, performing the song "Hello 2020." The same year, she played the daughter of a military family in the historical drama The Song of Glory. She also appeared in the comedy Warm Hug. In 2020, she was ranked 72nd on Forbes China Celebrity 100 list.
Endorsements
Li was named brand ambassador for the cosmetics company SK-II in 2018.
Furla, an Italian-inclusive luxury brand, has announced that Li will serve as the brand's spokesperson beginning in 2021. She will also be the first brand spokesperson for Laura Mercier Cosmetics in the Asia-Pacific region in 2021.
