Lee Bo-young Wiki, Age, Biography, Height, Husband, Family, Images, And More
Lee Bo-young (born 12 January 1979) is a South Korean actress. Her most notable roles include My Daughter Seo-young (2012), I Can Hear Your Voice (2013), Whisper (2017), Mother (2018), When My Love Blooms (2020), and Mine (2021). In 2013, Lee was named Gallup Korea's Television Actor of the Year.
Her career in the industry began in 2000, when she won the Daejeon entry for the Miss Korea beauty pageant. She originally wanted to be a news anchor after majoring in Korean literature at Seoul Women's University. In 2002, she was one of 15 finalists in MBC's annual recruitment drive, but she did not get the job. Instead, she pursued modelling and was chosen as the exclusive advertising model for Asiana Airlines, which is regarded as a stepping stone to stardom.
Lee made her acting debut in 2003, and her early roles included People of the Water Flower Village (2004), in which she co-starred with Song Il-gook, and Save the Last Dance for Me (2006), in which she played the antagonist (2004).
Lee made her acting debut in the daily drama My Sweetheart, My Darling in 2005, followed by the Silla-set historical epic Ballad of Seodong with Jo Hyun-jae. She spent the next few years in television dramas, including Mr. Goodbye with Ahn Jae-wook, Queen of the Game with Joo Jin-mo, and Becoming a Billionaire with Ji Hyun-woo, but none of them were particularly well received by audiences or critics.
Lee was cast in her first major big screen role in Once Upon a Time after playing the love interest in My Brother (2004) and A Dirty Carnival (2006). (2008). She and Park Yong-woo played notorious swindlers out to steal a diamond from the Japanese army in the heist comedy set during colonial rule in the 1940s.
Her two films from 2009 were both melodramas. Lee plays the soulmate of a terminally ill man (Kwon Sang-woo) in More Than Blue, but their love ends in tragedy undercut by poetic sparseness. In I Am Happy, Lee played a nurse who falls in love with a psychiatric ward patient (Hyun Bin), and in each other they find solace to get through their harsh and miserable reality.
Lee returned to television in 2010, playing a seductress opposite Shin Ha-kyun in the quirky cable drama Golden House. She then appeared in spy series Athena: Goddess of War as the president's daughter, followed by post-divorce romance series Bravo, My Love! with Lee Tae-sung and revenge drama Man from the Equator (2012) with Uhm Tae-woong.
She then portrayed the titular character in My Daughter Seo-young, a career woman who is enraged at her father (Chun Ho-jin), whose gambling addiction caused her mother's death, but struggles to keep the family together and make ends meet. Lee stated that playing Seo-young required a greater depth of emotion than any of her previous roles, leaving her exhausted but with a greater sense of accomplishment. The family drama was Lee's biggest hit yet, dominating the weekly ratings chart for 22 weeks and recording a series high of 47.6% on its final episode, the highest Korean drama rating in 2013.
Her subsequent series, I Can Hear Your Voice (2013), was also well-received. Lee played a materialistic public defender who testified a decade ago on behalf of a boy with supernatural abilities (Lee Jong-suk) after witnessing the boy's father's murder. According to critics, Lee was able to break free of her previous calm and elegant image with her stubborn and argumentative character. For her performance, she received several awards, including the Daesang ("Grand Prize"), the highest honour at the SBS Drama Awards. In 2013, Lee was named Gallup Korea's Television Actor of the Year.
In God's Gift - 14 Days, Lee played a mother who travels back in time two weeks before her daughter's kidnapping and murder. Lee starred in the SBS legal thriller Whisper in 2017, playing a section chief of the criminal division who is fired from the police and later disguises herself to work as an undercover at a law firm.
Lee starred as the titular character in the 2018 tvN drama Mother adopted the same-named Japanese television series. In 2020, she appeared in the melodrama When My Love Blooms, followed by the black comedy Mine in 2022.
