Kim Ji-won is a South Korean actress who was born on October 19, 1992. She rose to prominence after appearing in the television series The Heirs (2013) and Descendants of the Sun (2016), before moving on to lead roles in Fight for My Way (2017), Arthdal Chronicles (2019), Lovestruck in the City (2020-2021), and My Liberation Notes (2020-2021). Childhood and education

Kim Ji won was born in Seoul on October 19, 1992, and has a two-year-old elder sister. She was scouted on the street in middle school, signed with an entertainment agency, and then worked as a trainee for over three years while preparing for her debut. She studied drama at Dongguk University after graduating from Paekahm High School.

Career s2008–2012: Beginnings

Kim was trained in singing, dancing, and acting before deciding on the latter. She was a background vocalist for singer Younha, appearing in various performances as a keyboardist and background vocalist, as well as in Younha's music video "Gossip Boy" in 2008. There were plans for her to make her debut as a singer under the stage name "JessicaK" at the time. Kim made her acting debut in the drama Mrs. Saigon prior to her official debut. Kim then officially entered the industry in 2010 in a commercial for LG Cyon's Lollipop 2 featuring the group Big Bang and thus became known as the "Lollipop Girl". She later became known as the "Oran C Girl" after appearing in a carbonated drink commercial in which she performed a song and dance number. Because of her resemblance to the actress, she was also dubbed Little Kim Tae-hee.

Kim's first role after her debut was in the romance omnibus film Romantic Heaven, but she rose to prominence as an actress after appearing in the 2011 sitcom High Kick: Revenge of the Short Legged. She then appeared in another major television series, What's Up, a musical drama. Kim then appeared in the high school drama To the Beautiful You and the horror film Horror Stories, in which she played a kidnapped high school student. Kim also appeared in Baek Seung Heon's debut music video "Till the Sun Rises," alongside Kim Jae-joong from JYJ.
Rising popularity and breakthroughs from 2013 to 2016

Kim appeared as one of the lead characters in the KBS Drama special Waiting for Love, about four different youths with opposing views on love, as well as in the film Horror Stories 2, the sequel to the previous Horror Stories film, as a student obsessed with black magic. Kim co-starred in the teen drama The Heirs the same year, playing a chic and haughty heiress. The drama, written by Kim Eun-sook, was viewed over one billion times on Youku, raising Kim's profile and earning her the New Star Award at the SBS Drama Awards.

Kim appeared as a high school student and webtoon artist in the 2014 crime thriller Gap-dong. She also appeared in the KBS Drama special The Reason I'm Getting Married the same year. Kim signed an exclusive contract with King Kong Entertainment in December 2014.

Kim co-starred in the 2015 romance web series One Sunny Day with So Ji-sub. Kim appeared as Kim Bum's girlfriend in the TVN drama Hidden Identity the same year.

Kim co-starred as an army surgeon in KBS2's military romance drama Descendants of the Sun, written by Kim Eun-sook, in 2016. The drama was a pan-Asian hit, with ratings peaking at 38.8% and winning the Grand Prize in television at the 52nd Baeksang Arts Awards, as well as being named Korea Broadcasting Advertising Corporation's Most Popular Show of the Year. Its success elevated Kim's profile outside of Korea. She won the Excellence Award for hosting the year-end KBS Drama Awards with Park Bo-gum and Jun Hyun-moo. Kim was also named Best Supporting Actress at the APAN Star Awards.

Leading roles from 2017 to the present

Kim was cast as a department store employee at the information desk who dreams of becoming an announcer in KBS2's romance comedy drama, Fight for My Way, alongside Park Seo-joon in 2017. The series was praised for its realistic portrayal of struggling youths, friendship, and love, and it finished with 13.8% ratings, cementing Kim's position as a leading actress. Kim won the Excellence Award at the KBS Drama Awards for the second time.

In 2018, she played her first period role in Detective K: Secret of the Living Dead, the third installment of the Detective K film series. She portrayed a mysterious woman who loses her memory and becomes involved in the investigation. Kim, along with her Descendants of the Sun co-star Jin Goo, made a cameo appearance in Kim Eun-historical sook's drama Mr.Sunshine.

Kim appeared in the 2019 historical fantasy drama Arthdal Chronicles as Tanya, the head of the Wahan tribe and Song Joong-love ki's interest. Song and Kim reunited for the drama after appearing together in the 2016 hit drama Descendants of the Sun. Despite mixed reviews, criticism for similarities to other shows, and lower-than-expected ratings, the series was renewed for a second season. Kim and Song, on the other hand, did not return for the second season.

Kim signed with Salt Entertainment in February 2020. Later that year, she co-starred in the web series Lovestruck in the City, which premiered on Kakao TV in December 2020, alongside Ji Chang-wook.

In April 2022, she appeared in the television series My Liberation Notes as an introverted employee attempting to escape her mundane life. The series received modest but steadily increasing ratings during its run and drew attention for its writing and relatable scenarios.

Kim's contract with Salt Entertainment expired in June 2022, and she chose not to renew. Kim signed a contract with HighZium Studio on September 29, 2022. (formerly History D&C).

Kim's participation in the upcoming drama Queen of Tears (tentative title) slated for the second half of 2023 was confirmed by Studio Dragon on December 5, 2022. She will play Hong Hae-in, the chaebol heiress of the Queens Group.
