She aspired to be a painter and writer. She liked the Korean boy band TVXQ. Jisoo attended the School of Performing Arts Seoul for high school; in 11th grade, she joined the school's drama club and gained more experience in the entertainment industry by attending auditions. Jisoo lived with her parents, siblings, and grandparents prior to her debut. Jisoo has learned Chinese, Japanese, and English in addition to her native Korean.
Jisoo joined YG Entertainment as a trainee in 2011 after passing its auditions. She played a heartbroken girl in Epik High's music video for "Spoiler + Happen Ending" in October 2014. She played Bobby's girlfriend in Hi Suhyun's music video for "I'm Different" the same year. Jisoo appeared in the KBS2 drama The Producers in 2015, alongside labelmates Sandara Park of 2NE1 and Kang Seung-yoon of Winner.
Debut with Blackpink solo endeavours and acting from 2016 to 2022
Blackpink is the main article.
Jisoo made her Blackpink debut on August 8, 2016, alongside Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa, with the release of their single album Square One.
Jisoo co-hosted Inkigayo with Jin-young of Got7 and Doyoung of NCT from 2017 to 2018. She made her acting debut in 2019 with a brief cameo in the tvN fantasy drama Arthdal Chronicles as Song Joong-love ki's interest. Jisoo's style in the teasers for Blackpink's single "How You Like That" went viral on social media in June 2020. Celebrities and influencers in South Korea, China, Thailand, and Vietnam copied Jisoo's "two-bow hairstyle" and makeup, which she designed herself. To promote the challenge among overseas fans, her "dot style," a makeup idea she created, trended on social media platforms such as Instagram.
Jisoo contributed as a writer to Blackpink's first studio album The Album's lead single "Lovesick Girls" (2020).
Jisoo made her acting debut in the JTBC series Snowdrop in 2021, alongside Jung Hae-in. She portrayed Eun Yeong-ro, a college freshman who is held hostage by her love interest. The show ranked first on Disney+ in four of the five countries where it was available, including South Korea. Jisoo won Outstanding Korean Actress at the Seoul International Drama Awards in September 2022 for her role in Snowdrop.
Jisoo once again contributed songwriting credits to "Yeah Yeah Yeah," the fourth track on Blackpink's second studio album, Born Pink (2022).
2023–present: debut as a solo artist
On January 2, 2023, YG Entertainment announced that Jisoo would make his solo debut within the year and that he was currently filming a music video. Teasers were posted on Blackpink's social media accounts on March 5, confirming that her project would be released on March 31, 2023.
Influence and impact
Jisoo was ranked as the 10th most popular K-pop idol in 2018 and 17th in 2019 in Gallup Korea's annual polls. In a survey of South Korean soldiers doing mandatory military service in 2019, she was ranked as the sixth most popular female K-pop idol. Jisoo was one of two Korean singers added to the BoF 500 list in the same year, a "definitive professional index" of people shaping the $2.4 trillion fashion industry. She is, along with band member Rosé, the third most followed K-pop idol on Instagram as of February 2021.
Jisoo was named one of the top ten celebrities and influencers in the cosmetics industry for the first five months of 2020. According to Women's Wear Daily, a fashion industry trade journal, Jisoo ranked first in average engagement per post, followed by Rihanna and Kylie Jenner. Despite having the fewest posts (only 12 in total), she finished seventh overall. Jisoo was the list's only East Asian.
Jisoo ranked first in the girl group's personal brand reputation list compiled by Korea Enterprise Research Institute, which analysed data from brands and online consumer habits to identify those that have a significant impact on brand consumption and interest. Seong-sun Lim, director of the Korean Language Research Institute, stated that the Korean wave in the global community was rapidly destroying traditional Western cultural dominance, naming Jisoo and Jungkook as world beauty standards over actors Olivia Hussey and James Dean.
Dior's increase in sales during the COVID-19 pandemic in South Korea in 2020 was also attributed to a marketing campaign involving Korean pop singers such as Jisoo. She appeared in advertisements for Dior's new Bobby bag alongside Chiara Ferragni and Kat Graham, among others. Jisoo drew attention as a Korean representative at the Spring/Summer 2021 collection showcase. Her presence at the showcase earned Dior its highest-rated post since the Fall 2020 show, with an average of 33% MIV. In March 2021, creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri revealed that Jisoo inspired Dior's Autumn/Winter 2021 collection. It was also revealed that #025 Seoul Scarlet, one of ten Dior Addict Lip Glow lip balm shades, was inspired by Korean women such as Jisoo.
Her presence at the Dior Spring/Summer 2022 collection show sparked interest both inside and outside the Jardin des Tuileries venue. Jisoo was the public figure with the highest media impact value during Paris Fashion Week, with four photos on her personal Instagram worth $1.84 million. She was also the top celebrity for Dior's MIV, accounting for $15.7 million of the total $39.1 million generated by just two posts. During Dior's Autumn/Winter 2022 fashion show at Paris Fashion Week in March, she had the highest media impact value for a social media post, with one photo valued at $1.74 million.
After the announcement of design collaboration with Jisoo in March 2021, the KartRider Rush+ app's ranking rose to 11th place. Users responded positively to the collaboration in which she was involved.
