Kim Jae-Uck (born April 2, 1983) is a model and actor from South Korea. He is best known for his roles in the hit television series Coffee Prince (2007), the comedy film Antique (2008), the mystery drama Who Are You? (2013), the thriller Voice (2017), The Guest (2018), Her Private Life (2019), and Crazy Love (2020). (2022). He is fluent in Japanese and played S Takeyuki, Princess Deokhye's Japanese husband, in the film The Last Princess.
Kim was born in Seoul and raised in Tokyo, Japan until the age of seven before returning to South Korea. His father was a journalist who was assigned as a foreign correspondent to Japan. He began modeling at the age of 17 after performing in a band. He speaks fluent Japanese as a result of his time in Japan.
Career Beginnings and Breakthroughs 2002-2011
Kim made her MBC debut in 2002 as a member of an indie band in the drama Ruler of Your Own World. He concentrated on his modeling career for 5 years after this first role. He auditioned for and was cast as No Sun-ki in the 2007 hit drama series Coffee Prince. The role catapulted him to fame in South Korea and other Asian countries. Later, he appeared in the 2008 drama The Kingdom of the Winds, and in May 2008, he served as the ambassador of goodwill for the 9th Jeonju International Film Festival (JIFF).
Kim then starred in Antique, a film based on the manga Antique Bakery that was selected for the 59th Berlin International Film Festival. He portrayed a gay chef who worked in a bakery. At the 16th Korean Entertainment Awards, he was named Best New Actor. In October 2009, he formed Walrus, a modern rock band in which he served as guitarist and vocalist. The name of the band was inspired by the Beatles' song "I Am the Walrus."
Kim made his acting debut in the South Korean-Japanese drama Give Me Your Memory: Pygmalion's Love, which aired on Bee TV in March 2010. He appeared in the melodrama television series Bad Guy and the romantic comedy series Marry Me, Mary! the same year.
Prior to enlisting in the military in 2011, he appeared in the rock musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch from May 14 to June 19, 2011.
2013-2016: Resurrection
Kim made his comeback after completing his mandatory military service in the 2013 television series Who Are You?, playing the deceased boyfriend of So Yi-character. hyun's Kim appeared as Kim Hyun-rival joong's in KBS' period action drama Inspiring Generation in 2014, but left after episode 8 due to unavoidable circumstances.
Kim was cast as the lead in the fantasy comedy film Plank Constant in 2015, playing a scriptwriter with strange sexual fantasies.
In the period film The Last Princess the following year, Kim played a Japanese nobleman who marries Son Ye-character jin's Princess Deokhye. The following year, Kim starred in the film Two Rooms, Two Nights as a popular film director who tries to maintain secretive romantic relationships with both his current and ex-girlfriends.
Rising popularity from 2017 to the present
Kim appeared in the romance film Another Way (2017) in January 2017, playing a police officer who meets Seo Yea-character ji's online and forms a suicide pact. He went on to play the antagonist in OCN's hit thriller drama Voice, earning praise for his portrayal of a serial killer. Kim was cast as a rich businessman in the romance drama Temperature of Love in July of the same year.
Kim was cast in the musical Amadeus alongside Jo Jung-suk and Kim Sung-kyu in 2018. Butterfly Sleep, Kim's Japanese film, was released in Japan in May 2018. He was cast in OCN's supernatural thriller The Guest the same year.
Kim co-starred in the romantic comedy drama Her Private Life with Park Min-young in 2019. Kim is making her first appearance as the main character in a romantic comedy.
Kim created "My Margiela," a 5-episode video series about Belgian fashion designer Martin Margiela, in 2020.
In 2022, Kim co-stars with Krystal Jung in the KBS2 television series Crazy Love as a math instructor and CEO of a prestigious math institute.
Private life
In May 2011, he co-wrote Top Model, a book based on their experiences in the industry, with fashion models Jang Yoon-ju, Ji Hyun-jung, Han Hye-jin, and Song Kyung-ah. After five weeks of basic military training, he enlisted for mandatory military service on July 5, 2011 for 21 months of active duty. Kim signed an exclusive contract with management firm Better ENT in June 2015. He left Better ENT in June 2017 and signed with new management firm Management SOOP.
