Audrie Kiko Daniel (born October 15, 1990), better known as Kiko Mizuhara (, Mizuhara Kiko), is an American-born model, actor, singer, and designer who has lived in Japan since she was a youngster.
Kiko Mizuhara began her modeling career at the age of twelve when she entered a Seventeen magazine audition contest in which readers choose their favorite new face for the magazine. She later signed with ViVi and MAQUIA magazines as a model. Mizuhara made her acting debut in Norwegian Wood in 2010, and since then, she has been a regular on the big screen, appearing in Japanese dramas and films. She was featured as a singer on Towa Tei's "The Burning Plain" in 2011 and M-Flo's "No Way" single off their Neven album in 2013. Mizuhara has worked with Opening Ceremony, and singers Rihanna and Beyoncé have sported her designs. Mizuhara was included to the Business of Fashion 500: The People Shaping the Global Fashion Industry in 2014.
Mizuhara was born Audrie Kiko Daniel in Dallas, Texas, in the United States. Song Pal-choong (better known by her Japanese nickname Yae Toyama, née Mizuhara), a Zainichi Korean from Nagasaki, Japan, and Todd Mason Daniel, an American from Texas, are her parents. She has a younger sister, Ashley Yuka Daniel, who also works in the modeling profession under the name Yuka Mizuhara. Mizuhara and her family moved to Tokyo when she was two years old, and then to Kobe when she was three. Her parents split when she was 13 years old, and her father returned to the United States.
Career Modeling
Mizuhara received an audition for fashion magazine Seventeen in 2002 after entering a contest. She was chosen as Miss Seventeen at the audition and became an exclusive model for Seventeen for the next three years. She traveled to Tokyo alone at the age of 16, living apart from her mother and sister in Kobe, to further her modeling career. Kiko Mizuhara signed on as an exclusive model for fashion magazine ViVi in July 2007.
Kiko Mizuhara has been a frequent runway model at the Tokyo Girls Collection since 2008. Olympia Le Tan's Spring/Summer 2014 Show marked her worldwide runway debut at The Paris Collections. Mizuhara was selected to walk for British Fashion Designer Nasir Mazhar's S/S 2014 Collection at London Fashion Week and for Fashion Designer Jeremy Scott's debut show for Moschino at Milan Fashion Week the same year. During Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Tokyo, Mizuhara was chosen to start and end the Fall/Winter 2014 Show of Sretsis, a Thai-brand clothing line. In addition, she took part in Nicola Formichetti's first full collection show for Diesel in Venice, Italy. Kiko Mizuhara walked the runway for Alexander Wang's (designer) S/S 2018 Ready-to-Wear collection at New York Fashion Week in 2017.
Mizuhara has featured countless magazine covers and features not only in Japan, but also in Asia and Europe, in addition to her runway exploits. She has appeared in editorials for Vogue Japan, Vogue China, Vogue Taiwan, Vogue Italia, American Vogue, Vogue Girl Japan, and L'Uomo Vogue, among others. Nylon, Numero, Vivi, Seventeen, Grazia, GQ, Elle, Harper's Bazaar, L'Officiel, Maquia Gisele, V Magazine, Another Magazine, Dazed and Confused, Cosmopolitan, Dedicate Magazine, and Jalouse Magazine have all featured her on their covers and spreads. Mizuhara has also shot commercials for Diesel, Phillip Lim, Vivienne Tam, Reebok, Kitsuné, Tiffany & Co., Shiseido, and other brands. She was named a Chanel ambassador. Karl Lagerfeld photographed Mizuhara for Chanel's The Little Black Jacket campaign in 2012. Mizuhara took part in the Chanel Metiers d'Art Show in Dallas, Texas, in December 2013.
Mizuhara appeared in Marc Jacobs Eyewear's 2017 advertising campaign. In 2018, she was named Dior's first Asian ambassador. In the same year, she was welcomed into the Coach family.
Acting
Mizuhara appeared alongside Kenichi Matsuyama and Rinko Kikuchi in Tran Anh Hung's Norwegian Wood (2010). She appeared in Mika Ninagawa's Helter Skelter (2012), which is based on Kyoko Okazaki's award-winning manga of the same name. She also appeared as a supporting actress in Toshiaki Toyoda's I'm Flash! (2012) and co-starred with Kazunari Ninomiya in Keishi Otomo's Platinum Data. Mizuhara also appeared as a witch doctor in Trick The Movie: Last Stage (2014), where she spoke Bahasa because the film was shot in Kuching, Malaysia. Mizuhara portrays Mikasa Ackerman in the Attack on Titan live-action adaption in 2015. Mizuhara co-starred in the 2021 film Aristocrats, based on Mariko Yamauchi's novel Ano Ko wa Kizoku.
Mizuhara made her first appearance on the small screen in the Japanese television series Yae no Sakura. She appeared in the 2014 drama Shitsuren Chocolatier. In 2015, she was a member of the main cast of the Japanese drama Kokoro ga Pokitto ne (Crazy For Me).
Mizuhara began her partnership with Opening Ceremony in Spring 2013 to commemorate the opening of the Opening Ceremony flagship shop in Japan. The collection was influenced by 1920s Paris, with very pretty blouses, lingerie, and frilled short-shorts. The same year, she labeled her fashionwear collection "Bad Girl of the 90s," which contained Beyoncé's famous pizza suit and other items she designed that were worn by Rihanna and other celebrities. Mizuhara has also collaborated with Opening Ceremony Japan and Harlem-based label Gypsy Sport to create a series of headgear that combines Harajuku flair with '90s streetwear. Mizuhara debuted her Spring/Summer "Girlfriend of the Rockstar" collection in 2014, followed by the Fall/Winter "Disco Bowling" collection inspired by the 1980s. Mizuhara teamed with photographer Nobuyoshi Araki and designer Yoshikasu Yamagata for the launch of Opening Ceremony Japan's first store in Osaka, Japan.
In 2017, Mizuhara collaborated with LA-based label UNIF to offer a spring collection inspired by Mizuhara's passion of retro clothes, which included a selection of 90s pieces. Members of the KPOP group Blackpink wore some items from this collection in their music video for "As If It's Your Last." Brown Eyed Girls members Ga-In and Sunmi are among the celebrities that have worn her products from this collection.
Mizuhara founded Kiko Co.,Ltd. (also known as "Office Kiko") in 2016. The next year, she debuted her own designer label, "OK." "OK" has already landed several high-profile collaborations, generating fashion, art, and lifestyle products in its first year of business. Office Kiko debuted a new range of boots and shoes in 2018 in conjunction with Esperanza, a Japanese footwear business aimed at young women.
