Kanna Hashimoto (, Hashimoto Kanna, born February 3, 1999) is a former singer and actor from Japan. She was a member of the Fukuoka-based idol girl group Rev. from DVL from 2011 to 2017. In 2013, a fan-taken photo of her performing with the group went viral on Twitter and 2channel, bringing her to national recognition.
Hashimoto made her acting debut in I Wish (2011). Hashimoto has also appeared in Sailor Suit and Machine Gun: Graduation (2016), for which she also released her debut single. She has also appeared in the films Haruta & Chika (2017), Gintama, and The Misadventures of Saiki K. Kaguya-sama: Love is War (2019), Kingdom (2019), Kiss Me at Midnight (2019), and Violence Action (2022).
Career
2007-2012: Beginnings of a career
When Hashimoto was in third grade, she joined with the Fukuoka-based agency Active Hakata. She began her career in local commercials before joining DVL, her agency's co-ed dance and vocal unit, in 2009; she later joined DVL's all-female successor group Rev. from DVL. She made her stage debut after being cast in Hirokazu Kore-eda's film I Wish. Following that, she appeared in performances by her agency's children's theatre group and plays by a local TV station. In her elementary school yearbook, she stated that her future ambition was to be a "actress."
From 2013 to 2015, she was involved in viral photography, hosting, and acting.
Photo that has gone viral
In 2013, Hashimoto went viral on 2channel and Twitter after a photo of her taken at Rev. from DVL's live performances from November 3 to November 4 went viral. She has been dubbed "beyond cute local idol," "beyond angelic idol," and "a talent appearing once in a millennium," according to a post on "NAVER Summary" titled "Once in a millennium talent: A local idol in Hakata is making a big fuss on the internet when she is too cute (Image of Kanna Hashimoto)." By November 7, the post had received over 550,000 views, and the server for her agency's main website was temporarily offline due to high traffic. "Tsubuyaki Big Data," a segment on NHK's late-night news programme "NEWS WEB" that introduces trends on Twitter and Google Trends, demonstrated that the number of Google searches had increased significantly and had spread to Chinese users. Good! also mentioned the photo. Mezamashi TV (Fuji TV) and Morning (Asahi TV). According to her agency, there was a torrent of proposals from TV commercial appearances and interviews in reaction to her viral photo.
Furthermore, KADOKAWA representative director Shinichiro Inoue, who saw the photo, "fell in love at first sight" and sent an email to his company saying "I want to make a movie with her"; the following weekend, he went to a live performance held at a train station in Fukuoka and, struck by the excitement of the stage, said "I definitely want you to star in my next movie," thus casting her in Sailor Suit and Machine Gun: Graduation;
"I don't know even one millimetre of goodness" of the shot that spurred her epiphany, Hashimoto added. "There was frustration," she recalled, "and maybe I was showing it on my face."
Sailor Suit and Machine Gun: Graduation, hosting, and acting
She was chosen as a regular on the variety show Minna no Seishun Nozokimi TV TEEN in April 2014!TEEN!, co-hosting the show with Naoki Matayoshi and Yuju Ayabe of the comic duo Peace. "I'm excited for the start of my first regular programme; I'm nervous because it's my first time as a host, but I'll do my best, so please watch it!" said Hashimoto, who recently graduated from high school. She was also appointed as the MC of Daiichi Kosho's online karaoke "DAM Channel," where she welcomed numerous musicians as guests and served as the 11th and youngest MC in the program's history. She made her first cover appearance in the May issue of the fashion magazine Popteen, which was issued in April, and she also appeared on the cover for five pages. She also appeared on the cover and front cover of Weekly Young Magazine, which was issued at the same time as her debut gravure action. In July, she had her first appearance in a nationally broadcast serial drama, Water Polo Yankees, on Fuji TV. "Having an overwhelming presence and a sense of transparency, I am confident that she will move the characters and the story," producer Ryota Fujino stated of her co-star Yuto Nakajima in Episode 6. "Yesterday and this morning, my hands were sweaty, and I was really nervous," Hashimoto added, when asked if there was a role she would like to try in the future, she said, "I haven't done anything yet, so really anything can 'come on'!" She was featured on TBS's live broadcast special programme "Too angelic MC in a town that is too exquisite! Full summer in Sacas SP" in August. Nikkei Trendy named her the "2014 Hit Person" in November, together with actor Tsuyoshi Muro, who served as the commentator for the "Best 30 Hit Products of 2014" and the facilitator during the presentation.
She made her live-action debut in the March 2015 episode of Assassination Classroom as Ritsu, an autonomous thinking fixed gun battery. "To play the peculiar character of Ritsu who also has outstanding cuteness, it had to be someone who has a miraculous presence that combines perfection and cuteness," said Juichi Uehara, a Fuji TV producer. She hosted the variety shows "Rev. from DVL's Afterschool" and "Magic that changes the world! Algorithm Institute." She demonstrated her "bakakakkoii" style in a commercial for cup noodles, which has become a big subject among high school students. Hashimoto, a "bright and lively angel," played a "sexy and glossy devil" in Mentholatum's commercial, which rapidly became a big subject on the internet.

2016-2017: Acting, Rev. from DVL graduating
On March 17, 2016, it was reported that she would co-star in Haruchika with Katsutoshi Sato. In the live-action film The Disastrous Life of Saiki K, she played Kokomi Teruhashi. film. In the live-action film adaptation of Kaguya-sama: Love Is War, she played the title character, Kaguya Shinomiya. Haruchika was launched on March 9. Acting, world record since 2018
In January 2018 she appeared as the Fukuoka Central Police Station Chief Special Alert for One Day on "Tuesday 9" FINAL CUT. She also participated in the popular corner of the variety show Guru Guru Ninety-Nine and was confirmed to be a new member of "I Will Become a Gourmet Chicken Race Gochi! 19”. In April, it was officially announced that the sequel to Gintama, which was the number one box-office hit of the previous year's live-action Japanese film, would be continued with Gintama 2: The Law is Surely There to be Broken. It was also announced that she would appear as the heroine Kyoko Hayakawa, a former Yankee gang leader, in the October NTV Sunday drama Kyo Kara Ore wa!!. On July 15, 2019, she launched her official fan club "Hashimoto Junj Naika o Hossoku," and the following month, she held her first fan meetings in Osaka and Tokyo. Kaguya-sama: Love is War, which was released nationwide on September 6, became the number one weekend audience mobilisation for the first time.
