Iqra Aziz Hussain (born November 24, 1997) is a Pakistani television actress who primarily works in Urdu. She made her acting debut in 2014, playing Shanzey in Kissey Apna Kahein. Aziz is best known for her performance as Ajiya in Momina Duraid's comedy Suno Chanda (2018), for which she received critical acclaim and won several awards, including the Lux Style Awards and the Hum Awards for Best Actress.
Citrus Talent Agency chose Aziz after he auditioned as a television commercial model. Muqaddas, a 2015 romantic drama series, gave her her first lead role. As a result, she is well-known for her main roles in shows such as Choti Si Zindagi (2016), Qurban (2018), Suno Chanda (2018), Tabeer (2018), Ranjha Ranjha Kardi (2018), and Jhooti (2018). (2020). Aziz was most recently seen in Geo TV's romantic drama Khuda Aur Muhabbat 3 as Mahi Shah, opposite Feroze Khan (2021).
Early years
Aziz was born in Karachi on November 24, 1997. In interviews, she discussed her mother's difficulties as a single parent. Iqra finished college while working, but she eventually dropped out to focus on acting. In 2018, she stated that she intended to return to school in the coming years.
Career
Aziz began her career when she was 14 years old. She dabbled in acting with the assistance of her older sister. She first auditioned as a television commercial model and was chosen by Citrus Talent Agency. Aziz is still appearing in television commercials today. Momina Duraid, Hum TV's co-producer, later noticed her and offered her a role in her series Kissey Apna Kahein. She appeared in the series alongside Arij Fatyma, Danish Taimoor, Shabbir Jan, and other senior actors.
She continued her acting career by starring in another Hum TV drama series, Muqaddas, based on Adeel Razzak's novel of the same name. The series proved to be her breakthrough, and she received the Hum Award for Best Female Television Sensation. The series was also met with mixed reactions and nominated for Best Television Play at the annual Lux Style Awards. In the same year, she played a supporting role in Ilyas Kashmiri's Mol.
She was seen in the lead roles in Socha Na Tha and Deewana in 2016. In the latter, she portrayed Mehar Sultana (Mehru), who befriends and eventually falls in love with the mischievous but loving Jinn Falak (Shehroz Sabzwari). Aziz went on to play Marina Zaman's supporting role in Ahmed Bhatti's directorial Kisay Chahoon, as well as Mannat Chaudhary in Laaj. In Choti Si Zindagi, her on-screen chemistry with Shehzad Sheikh was praised, and both received nominations for Best Onscreen Couple. Her performance in the series also earned her a nomination for Best Actress at the Hum Awards.
Aziz then starred in Gustakh Ishq alongside Zahid Ahmed and appeared as a guest in the 2017 series Dil-e-Jaanam. She appeared in Ghairat (a series based on Honour Killing) with Syed Jibran and Muneeb Butt, as well as the romantic drama Khamoshi with Zara Noor Abbas, Affan Waheed, and Bilal Khan. The latter was a critical and commercial success. Aziz portrayed Naeema, an arrogant, greedy, and career-driven girl, in Khamoshi. Her performance as the antagonist was praised. "The way she has portrayed Naeema's character so well that you can't help but hate her," wrote a Mangobaaz reviewer. On Hum TV's Bridal Couture Week, Aziz walked the runway for designer Aisha Farid's collection Crystalline. She finished filming the Urdu music video "O Jaana" with Hamza Malik and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan in early January 2018, and it was released in July 2018. and made a cameo in Asim Azhar's music video "Jo Tu Na Mila."
The following year, Aziz worked again with Shehzad Sheikh (along with Bilal Abbas Khan and Omair Rana) in Idream Entertainment's Qurban. She played Heer, a bubbly and bright girl from a wealthy family, and was seen in a love triangle with Sheikh and Khan. She played Ajiya Nazakat (Jiya) in Suno Chanda, a limited series that aired during Ramadan 2018. She was cast alongside Farhan Saeed. Aziz and Saeed's on-screen chemistry was praised. The show received mixed reviews, and she was nominated for Best Television Actress at the Lux Style Awards. Aziz stated in an interview that she was overwhelmed and did not expect the series to be such a huge success. She portrayed Tabeer in Hum TV's Tabeer. According to Ahmed Sarym of The Express Tribune, "Aziz has already proven her mettle through a wide range of characters from the exuberant Jiya to a vampish Naeema in Khamoshi and the titular character of Tabeer at such a young age."
She later made an appearance in Faiza Iftikhar's Ranjha Ranjha Kardi. Critics praised her performance as Noori, a member of the Untouchables' lower cast. The News International's Buraq Shabbir stated, "Popularly known as the feisty Jia from Suno Chanda and now the equally fiery Noori in Ranjha Ranjha Kardi, has spark." Her other credits include the second season of Suno Chanda, directed by Ahson Talish and produced by MD Productions. Hum TV aired it in 2019.
Other work and media representation
Iqra has also appeared as a guest on television shows and talk shows. In 2015, she made her first guest appearance in Jago Pakistan Jago. She appeared as a guest on The After Moon Show, a comedy-talk show, and Tonite with HSY in 2018. Aziz made headlines in May 2018 after allegedly breaching his contract with Citrus talent. According to Fahad Hussain, Head of Citrus Talent, Aziz violated an agreement that required him to only work on projects approved by the talent agency. Despite being reminded of the first contract, she has signed a new contract and is working with another public relations firm. According to Aziz, "Fahad never provided her with a copy of the agreement that she breached and used to delay her rightful payments for many months." Later, their lawyers settled the dispute, and both stated,
"We'd like to thank our lawyers for mediating and resolving our issues, which arose as a result of miscommunication and misunderstandings." We have also mutually agreed to continue working together in the future. So, guys, we're back with a vengeance!!! ”
She won the Hum TV Style Awards' Most Stylish TV Actor Award in September 2018. She also appeared on the Hum Style Awards with Farhan Saeed. She is an ambassador for several brands, including 7up, Nestle, Cadbury, and National Foods. She collaborated with model Hasnain Lehri to launch OPPO's A7 in Pakistan in November 2018. She was also the company's brand ambassador. She was named to Eastern Eye's Top 50 Sexiest Asian Women List and Google Pakistan's most searched people in 2018. Following the success of Ranjha Ranjha Kardi and Suno Chanda, The News International cited her as playing an inspirational female character on Pakistani television. In July 2019, a controversy erupted following the release of photos from Iqra's holiday in Thailand in 2018, in which she was dressed in beach-styled minimal clothing. The photos drew criticism on social media, and her sister, Sidra Aziz, took to Twitter to express her displeasure with the comments.
Private life
Aziz publicly announced his engagement to Yasir Hussain on July 7, 2019, at the 18th Lux Style Awards. She married Yasir Hussain on the 28th of December, 2019. Aziz gave birth to their son in July 2021.
