Hina Khan (born 2 October 1987) is an Indian film and television actress. She is most known for her roles as Akshara in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai on Star Plus and Komolika in Kasautii Zindagii Kay 2. In 2017, she competed in the reality series Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 8 and Bigg Boss 11, finishing second in both.
Khan was born on October 2, 1987, in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, India, to father Aslam Khan and a Kashmiri Muslim family. She is from a family of four: her parents, herself, and her younger brother, Aamir Khan, who owns a travel business. In 2009, she earned her Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the CCA School of Management in Gurgaon.
Since 2014, Khan has been dating Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai's supervising producer Rocky Jaiswal. On Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 8, she revealed that she has asthma.
In 2008, Khan auditioned for Sony TV's singing reality show Indian Idol, where she finished in the top 30. Later, during her college studies in Delhi, Khan auditioned for Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai because her friends pushed her to do so, and she was cast. She relocated to Mumbai and made her television debut as Akshara Singhania in one of India's longest-running soap operas in 2009. She left the show in November 2016 after eight years to pursue other endeavors. Her performance in the series garnered her positive critical acclaim and several prizes.
She competed on Colors TV's Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 8 in 2017, finishing as the first runner up.
She appeared as a celebrity contestant on Colors TV's reality show Bigg Boss 11 in September 2017. She made it fifteen weeks, became one of four finals, and was named first runner-up in January 2018.
She finished filming a Punjabi music video with Sonu Thukral in late February 2018, and it was released in March 2018. On March 31, it was announced that she has signed on to appear in Ankoosh Bhatt's short film 'SmartPhone,' opposite actor Kunaal Roy Kapur. Hina had an appearance in Sonu Thukral's Punjabi music video "Bhasoodi" in July 2018. She was cast as Komolika, an antagonist in Kasautii Zindagii Kay, in October 2018, but she departed the program in April 2019 and was replaced by Aamna Sharif. In the same year, she signed on to star in Hussain Khan's debut film Lines, directed by Hussain Khan and written by Rahat Kazmi and Shakti Singh.
She signed another short film, Soulmate, opposite actor Vivan Bhatena, on January 2, 2019. Pawwan Sharma directed the film. She filmed Rahat Kazmi's short film "Wish List" with actor Jitendra Rai in May 2019. In September, she began filming as Gosha in Rahat Kazmi's third film, 'The Country of the Blind,' an Indo-Hollywood production. In the same month, she inked a deal for "Damaged 2," a psychological crime drama digital series.
She signed a ZEE5 horror flick opposite actor Kushal Tandon in January 2020. Khan appeared as the primary lead in the fifth season of Ekta Kapoor's Naagin, with Dheeraj Dhoopar and Mohit Malhotra. Khan made her Bollywood debut in February 2020 with the film Hacked, directed by Vikram Bhatt and starring Sid Makkar. Khan returned to Bigg Boss 14 as a toofani senior alongside Gauahar Khan and Sidharth Shukla for the first three weeks in October 2020. Khan co-starred with Tanmay Ssingh in the music video for T-Series' 'Patthar Wargi' in May 2021. Khan appeared in her following single, 'Baarish Ban Jana,' with Shaheer Sheikh, in June 2021, which was shot in Kashmir. Stebin Ben and Payal Dev performed the song.
Her music video 'Main bhi Barbaad,' featuring Angad Bedi and sung by Yasser Desai, was released in September 2021.
In March 2022, she launched her next web series, "Seven One," in which she plays a cop.
Other work and media representation
Khan has also appeared as a guest in a number of television shows. In 2009, she made her first appearance in Kayamath, followed by Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil and Sabki Laadli Bebo. In 2010, she guest starred in Sapna Babul Ka... Bidaai, Saath Nibhaana Saathiya, and Chand Chupa Badal Mein. She appeared as a guest on Chef Pankaj Ka Zayka's cookery show in 2011. Khan appeared as a panelist on Bigg Boss 10 in December 2016 to promote his friend Rohan Mehra.
She was selected to Eastern Eye's Top 50 Sexiest Asian Women List in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017. MensXP.com, an Indian lifestyle website for men, named her number eight among the "35 Hottest Actresses in Indian Television" in 2014. Rediff.com ranked her fourth among "Television's Top 10 Actresses."
In Bigg Boss 11, Khan received the title of Sher Khan. Biz Asia called her the Most Favorite Actress of 2017.
In the same year, she became a troll victim after posting an image of her teddy bear dubbed 'Pooh' while protecting her Bigg Boss co-contestant Luv Tyagi during a task.
She walked the runway for Streax Professional in Mumbai for the marigold collection on April 2nd. Hina was named the "Style Diva of the Television Industry" at the 11th Gold Awards. Hina graced the cover of FHM India's December 2018 issue. Khan ranked first on the Times of India's list of "Most Desirable Women on Television" in 2018 and 2019. She was also voted No. 19 in "The Times Most Desirable Women" in 2018, and No. 29 in 2019.
