Biography
Guan was born in Beijing to an acting family. Guan Shaozeng, her father, was an actor, and Guan Xuezeng, her grandfather, founded Beijing Qinshu. Her family encouraged her interest in the arts from a young age, and she made her debut in Nuan at the age of four.
Guan was admitted to the Beijing Film Academy in 2016 after finishing first in both the practical and written sections of the Chinese College Entrance Examinations.
Guan's career began when she starred in Nuan, a film based on author Mo Yan's short story The White Dog and the Swing. The film was well received in both China and Japan.
Guan rose to prominence as a child actress as the younger counterpart to Cecilia Cheung's character in Chen Kaige's film The Promise. She continued to expand her filmography by appearing in television shows and films.
Her popularity grew after she starred in the 2014 television series May December Love, which was well-received in China. She also appeared in One Servant of Two Masters, for which she received the Best Supporting Actress award at China's Hengdian Film and TV Festival. Guan was dubbed the "Nation's Daughter" by the Chinese media after these dramas aired.
Guan won the Most Promising Actress award at the inaugural Gold Aries Award held by Macau International Movie Festival in 2015 for her role in the coming-of-age film The Left Ear. Eighteen, her first solo album, was released the same year.
Guan was cast in the family drama Papa Can You Hear Me Sing, a remake of the classic Taiwanese film of the same name, in 2016. She went on to star in the romantic drama To Be A Better Man. Both series received high ratings in China, and Guan was named Best Supporting Actress at the Shanghai Television Festival for her work in To Be a Better Man. She also played her first adult leading role in the fantasy drama Novoland: Castle in the Sky, for which she received the Best Actress award at the 7th Macau International Television Festival.
Guan appeared as the female lead in the fantasy action drama Xuan-Yuan Sword: Han Cloud and the romance comedy series Love of Aurora in 2017.
Guan appeared in the historical romance drama Untouchable Lovers and the sports romantic comedy series Sweet Combat in 2018. Guan received positive reviews for her performance as a two-faced princess in Zhang Yimou's wuxia film Shadow the same year. The same year, she co-starred with Dylan Sprouse in the fantasy romance film The Story of Turandot. Guan was named to Forbes China's 30 Under 30 Asia 2017 list, which included 30 influential people under the age of 30 who have made a significant impact in their fields.
