Go Ah-sung is a South Korean actress who was born on August 10, 1992. She started out as a child actress, most notably in The Host. Snowpiercer (2013), Samjin Company English Class (2020), and the TV dramas Master of Study (2010) and Heard It Through the Grapevine are among her other notable works (2015).
Career
Go Ah-sung was four years old when she appeared in her first commercial, and she was ten when she joined the 2002 stage musical Peter Pan. Go began her acting career at the age of thirteen in the KBS children's programme Oolla Boolla Blue-jjang (2004).
After they collaborated on the MBC omnibus drama Beating Heart (2005), actress Bae Doona recommended Go to director Bong Joon-ho when he was casting for his highly anticipated monster film. Go made her film debut in 2006, starring in The Host, after an extensive audition process. Bong praised her performance, saying she "exhibited really mature acting for her age, which is one of her defining charms as an actress." Film critics praised Go as well, with Stephen Hunter of The Washington Post calling her performance "exquisite," and Megan Ratner of Bright Lights Film Journal praising her "unforced naturalness, reminiscent not only of Ana Torrent but of Zazie's Catherine Demongeot." Go was nominated for several acting awards, including Best New Actress at the 2006 Blue Dragon Film Awards.
She continued her acting career with roles in The Happy Life (2007), Radio Dayz (2008), and A Brand New Life (2010). (2009). Go made an appearance in the Korean drama Master of Study, based on the Japanese manga Dragon Zakura, in 2010. During its run, it received the highest ratings in its time slot.
Duet (2012), an indie romance about an aspiring Korean singer on a tour of England and the British guy she meets who shares her interests in music, photography, and travel, was Go's first leading role.
She reteamed with The Host co-star Song Kang-ho in the blockbuster sci-fi thriller Snowpiercer, Bong Joon-first ho's English-language film, in 2013. Go then starred alongside Kim Hee-ae in Thread of Lies (2014), a film adaptation of Kim Ryeo-novel ryeong's Elegant Lies about a determined young woman seeking the truth about her sister's suicide.
In 2014, Go signed with the American agency Untitled Entertainment. In 2015, she returned to television with Heard It Through the Grapevine, a black comedy about the chaos caused by an unplanned teenage pregnancy in a wealthy, powerful family. Go then starred in the mystery thriller Office, which had its world premiere in Cannes' Midnight Screenings section; she won Best Actress at Fancine for her role as an intern who becomes a suspect in a murder investigation.
She appeared in an episode of the Japanese television series Midnight Diner in 2016. She went on to star in the war drama A Melody to Remember. At the 18th Far East Film Festival, the film received the audience award.
In 2017, Go tackled her first romantic comedy in the MBC drama Radiant Office, playing a twentysomething woman who, after a suicide attempt and possible terminally-ill diagnosis, believes she has nothing to lose and approaches her job and life with fresh eyes.
Go was cast as the team's sole female detective in the South Korean adaptation of the UK series Life on Mars in 2018. Go returned to the big screen in 2019 with the historical drama A Resistance.
Go starred in the critically acclaimed and box office smash Samjin Company English Class, which won Best Film at the 57th Baeksang Arts Awards in 2020. She pretended to be an employee who excelled at day-to-day office tasks but inadvertently discovered the company's water pollution leak.
Go returned to television in 2022, playing a tax investigator in MBC and Wavve's financial thriller Tracer.
Other pursuits
Go likes to travel alone and take pictures. Bae Doona, a friend and frequent costar, sparked her interest in photography. In 2010, Go's photographs were displayed alongside artwork by Ha Jung-woo and photographs by Uhm Tae-woong at the 5th annual Seoul Open Art Fair.
Music is another one of her interests. She performed live on stage at Mudaeruk in Hongdae and did her own singing for the film Duet.
At Sungkyunkwan University, Go majored in Psychology.
