Gary Shirley of Teen Mom honours his daughter Leah on her 14th birthday, saying, "I'm trying my best to be there for her while also respecting her boundaries."
Leah expressed to her father throughout the episode how she felt about the incident, saying, "I want us to be pleasant together and not have any conflicts or anything."
The journey for Gary, Amber, and Leah has been difficult. Gary's revelation that Leah had begun counselling during the Teen Mom OG reunion in November 2021 prompted Amber to stand up and leave the taping.
Fans, however, saw Amber ask Gary to join her for the Teen Mom Family Reunion after the reunion had been taped. That reunion aired in January. After attending the event together, Amber exclusively provided E! News with insight into her and Gary's co-parenting arrangement.
We enjoy having fun when Gary and I are together, she remarked. "We quarrel, talk trash to one other, or are friends with each other about half the time. Sincerely, we can never be sure. It depends on how I, or possibly simply I, feel when I wake up.
More recently, Amber found herself "devastated and heartbroken" after she was unsuccessful in obtaining custody of James, the 4-year-old son she shares with her ex Andrew Glennon.
At the time, the Teen Mom star told E! News, "I've worked so hard to better myself and strengthen my connections with my children. "While I've always been open about my past drug use and battles with mental illness, I believe that everyone deserves the chance to make amends and not be bound by their mistakes from the past."
I'll never give up fighting for my children, who I love more than anything, she continued.
