Charlize Theron, star of the Fast & Furious film series, shares her amusing need for acting in a Cipher spinoff. Every actor in Hollywood will have appeared in a Fast & Furious film before it is over. Oscar-winner Theron, on the other hand, has already starred in two and will return in Fast X the following year.
When Theron joined the Fast and Furious franchise as the enigmatic villain Cipher in 2017's The Fate of the Furious, the series was already well-established as a global box office powerhouse. The Oscar-winning actress from Monster found the experience to be so enjoyable that she decided to do it again for the 2021 film F9: The Fast Saga. Theron is now a seasoned franchise member, and Cipher is already a well-known character in the cast of the ever-expanding Fast and Furious series.
In fact, expansion is the name of the game right now for the Fast and Furious franchise, a box office mainstay. With Hobbs & Shaw, the high-octane brand entered the spinoff market. Currently, there is speculation of another spinoff centred on Theron's Cipher and potentially other female characters. Theron appears to be open to a Cipher spinoff, but she has one humorous stipulation in her agreement. The actress recently informed ET, "If Dame Helen Mirren does it, I'm in" (via ComicBook.com). Of course, Mirren has acted as the matriarch of the Shaw clan in three of the Fast and Furious franchise movies.
What The Fast And Furious Cipher Spinoff Might Contain
In her two appearances in the Fast and Furious films, the enigmatic hacker and terrorist Cipher has undoubtedly caused a lot of issues for Dom Toretto and his team. The character has shown herself to be extremely shrewd and totally ruthless during that time (and so far unkillable). Additionally, she is blatantly a wicked psychopath who is only concerned with gratifying her thirst for power. Any Fast and Furious spinoff including Cipher would probably have to soften the character a bit, turning her into more of an anti-hero than a straight-up villain. Given the character's history, this might be challenging to pull off, but Theron is more than capable of giving Cipher depth if necessary.
The main query is whether a Cipher spinoff would genuinely centre on her exclusively or would instead be a film including several female Fast and Furious characters. Cipher might be able to remain a pure antagonist if the movie adds more female characters. The character's hacking background undoubtedly creates opportunities for an entertaining techno-thriller or heist movie with a significant action component (this being a Fast and Furious spinoff). Theron and Mirren will need to share the screen in any hypothetical Fast & Furious Cipher spinoff; otherwise, it seems as though Theron is not interested.
