Mercan Ezgi Mola (born 29 March 1983) is a Turkish actress who has appeared in a number of well-known Turkish films and television series.

Biography

Ezgi is well-known for her successful career in both film and theatre. She has appeared in the "Arkadaşm Hoşgeldin" improvisation theatre. She made her debut in Kartal Tibet's Karate Can while studying at Akademi Istanbul. She studied at the Müjdat Gezen Arts Center for four years under Aydoan Temel and made her stage debut in his play ürük Elma. She joined BKM Theatre in 2005 and co-starred with Ugur Yücel in the series Hrsz Polis and Canm Ailem. In her film career, she has had moderate box office success. She won the Sadri Alşk award for her performance in the film Hayatmn Kadnsn in 2006. Mola played the Queen of Hearts in a musical adaptation of Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland in 2019.

Controversy

Mola criticised a Turkish soldier, Musa Orhan, in August 2020, for being released from prison despite being accused of sexual assault in Siirt, and whose Kurdish victim, Pek Er, died in hospital. Both Orhan's lawyer and the office of the Chief Public Prosecutor filed a lawsuit against Mola in June 2021, accusing him of 'insulting with an audio, written, and video message,' seeking a prison sentence of up to 2 years and 4 months. She was fined over $400 in May 2022 for insulting Orhan.
