James Earl Jones, who has played Darth Vader's distinctive, frightening voice for decades, will not record any additional dialogue for upcoming "Star Wars" projects.

Vader will be able to deliver fresh lines of dialogue and maintain the authoritative bass sound that made him a widely feared villain instead because Jones' voice will be artificially preserved by an AI computer that can reproduce his voice, according to Vanity Fair.

For the latest Disney+ miniseries "Obi-Wan Kenobi," which takes place some years after Anakin Skywalker turns into a Sith lord, the Ukrainian company Respeecher was tasked with producing a rendition of Jones' voice as it sounded in the original trilogy.

According to sound editor Matthew Wood for Vanity Fair, Jones, 91, last recorded a Vader voice cameo for the 2019 sequel "The Rise of Skywalker." According to the outlet, the actor gave his approval for Lucasfilm's plans to continue using his voice as Darth Vader in the future through archival recordings and fresh speech produced by AI.

Wood told Vanity Fair, "He had stated he was looking into winding down this specific character." "So, how do we proceed?"

Jones assisted in directing the teams responsible for reproducing Vader's sound and kept informed of Lucasfilm's future plans for the character, according to Wood, and was involved throughout the process of developing Vader's voice for "Obi-Wan Kenobi."

Lucasfilm has already used AI to bring back the voices of several characters; Respeecher also improved the younger Luke Skywalker voice in "The Book of Boba Fett" on Disney+. Although the voice of the character was given by actor Guy Henry and not an AI computer, Lucasfilm used CGI to replicate the look of the late Peter Cushing's malevolent Grand Moff Tarkin for the prequel movie "Rogue One" in 2016.

Since 1977's "A New Hope," Jones, an EGOT-winning actor, has provided the voice of Vader; nevertheless, his contribution to that film went uncredited. From the original trilogy to the animated series "Star Wars Rebels," he has since performed the voice of Darth Vader in every production where the character appears. In "Obi-Wan Kenobi," he is also listed as Vader, despite the fact that he didn't record any new lines for the role.
