Danneel Ackles (EltaDanneelGraul; born March 18, 1979) is an American actress who was formerly known by the name Danneel Harris in the entertainment industry. On the American daytime soap opera One Life to Live, she played Shannon McBain, and on the WB/CW drama series One Tree Hill, she played Rachel Gatina.
EltaDanneelGraul was raised in the surrounding tiny town of Eunice in the St. Landry Parish after being born in Lafayette, Louisiana. Her mother Deborah Graul is an interior designer, and her father Edward E. Graul Jr. is an active ophthalmologist. She was given her great-grandmother's name. Despite having the middle name Danneel as her professional name, Elta is her real name. The street Danneel in New Orleans served as the source of the name "Danneel". She relocated there so she could pursue a modeling career.
Career
Prior to landing her first acting role, Harris worked as a model for brands including Juicy Jeans and Big Sexy Hair. She debuted in a commercial on television. As Shannon McBain, a student at the fictional Llanview University, Harris won her first role on the American Broadcasting Company soap opera television series One Life to Live in 2003. For the part, Harris moved to New York; she left the show in December 2004. Since then, Harris has made appearances on episodes like Joey, JAG, Charmed, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, What I Like About You, and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. The Plight of Clownana was the short film in which Harris made his acting debut.
In 2005, it was revealed that Harris would play a significant recurring role in the third season of the One Tree Hill television drama on The CW. For the fourth season of the show, Harris reprised her series regular role as Rachel Gatina, a bad girl who causes trouble for the people of Tree Hill. Harris only plays Rachel again in two episodes of season five due to the format change of the season. It was announced in June 2009 that Harris would play Rachel in all seven episodes of the seventh season of the show. Due to schedule issues, Harris' hopes to return for the eighth season of the show never materialized.
In the comedy Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay, a follow-up to the 2004 film Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle, Harris was cast as the female lead. In the same month, shooting took place in Shreveport, Louisiana. Despite receiving generally unfavorable reviews (an average score of 53% on review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes), the movie was released in April 2008 and has since grossed over $43,439,123 globally. In the third and final film of the trilogy, A Very Harold &Kumar 3D Christmas, which was released in November 2011, Harris reprises her role as Vanessa Fanning. In the movies Fired Up! and The Back-up Plan, Harris appeared in modest supporting roles in both 2009 and 2010.
Harris' casting in the Screen Gems thriller The Roommate was revealed in May 2009. In the movie, which also stars Leighton Meester and Cam Gigandet, a college student is the target of a violent infatuation by her roommate. Harris plays prominent fashion designer Irene Crew. The movie faced multiple setbacks for unexplained reasons when it was being shot on location at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Despite receiving unfavorable reviews from critics, the movie was eventually released in February 2011 to a $15.6 million opening weekend and went on to earn over $40 million globally.
Harris made an appearance in the Friends with Benefits sitcom television series pilot in September 2009, which NBC decided to pick up. It was originally scheduled to show as a midseason replacement for the television season 2010–2011, but it was postponed until August 2011. Harris played Sara Maxwell, a doctor who is in search of the ideal partner. 2.34 million viewers watched the show's debut, and critics had conflicting things to say about it. The series' inability to maintain viewers for the remainder of the season ensured that it was not renewed.
Harris was hired in June 2012 for a recurring part in the second season of the TV Land series Retired at 35. Harris is now known professionally as DanneelAckles. Ackles was revealed to have been cast in the recurring role of Sister Jo in the thirteenth season of the CW television series Supernatural in December 2017. She starred alongside former One Tree Hill co-stars Hilarie Burton, Robert Buckley, Tyler Hilton, and Antwon Tanner in the 2018 Lifetime television movie The Christmas Contract. A partnership with Warner Bros. Television enabled Jensen and DanneelAckles to launch Chaos Machine Productions more recently.
Personal Life
In November 2009, Jensen Ackles, who plays the lead character on Supernatural, proposed to Harris. They wed on May 15, 2010, in Dallas, Texas. On January 7, 2013, the couple revealed they were expecting their first child together. In May 2013, their daughter was born. The couple revealed their shared pregnancy for twins later that year on August 10. Their son and daughter twins, who were born in December 2016, were.
