The Jedi Temple has a busy life. There are always younglings, padawans, masters, and apprentices wandering around, so one never knows who they will run into. There are numerous scenes in the Jedi Temple and several Jedi cameos in the new animated series "Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi." The Jedi Council promotes Mace Windu to a new position. A perilous encounter between Jedi Master Yaddle and Count Dooku occurs. Many well-known Jedi, including Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and others, make cameos.
One, though, is so fleeting that it practically qualifies as a cameo. A Jedi youngling and the Jedi who would later become his master can be seen lingering in the background of "Practice Makes Perfect," the fifth episode of "Tales of the Jedi," as Ahsoka passes her test. Caleb Dume and Master Depa Billaba are here. For those who are aware, Kanan Jarrus was originally given the name Caleb Dume. Of course, one of the main characters in "Star Wars Rebels" is Kanan.
The character of Kanan Jarrus, portrayed by Freddie Prinze Jr. on both "Star Wars Rebels" and "Star Wars: The Bad Batch," is crucial to the "Star Wars" universe. But before he was a Padawan, he was brought up in the Coruscant Jedi Temple as a Jedi Youngling. Caleb Dume was his name when he was a little child; he didn't adopt Kanan Jarrus' name until after the great purge, when he managed to flee the Empire. We see how he was able to escape those terrible events in "Star Wars: The Bad Batch" and the 12-issue comic book series "Star Wars: Kanan," but in "Practice Makes Perfect," we see a much happier period for the young Jedi. This appearance is them giving some form of training prior to that occurrence, which is recounted in various places, including those Marvel comics and Jonathan Jackson Miller's book "Star Wars: A New Dawn." Caleb is chosen as a Jedi Padawan by Depa Billaba very late in the Clone Wars.
But right now, from the security of Coruscant and the Jedi Temple, all the danger associated with the wars—past, present, and future—is little more than a faint echo. Despite the fact that little Caleb appears content right now as he watches Padawan Ahsoka Tano put training remotes to the test, Caleb will undoubtedly face many difficult situations in the future.
