Ahead of Cabinet reshuffle, President Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday appointed new governors for eight States.
Union Minister Thaawarchand Gehlot was appointed as Karnataka Governor and Mangubhai Chhaganbhai Patel was named as the Governor of Madhya Pradesh, according to Rashtrapati Bhawan.
Gehlot, a Rajya Sabha member from Madhya Pradesh, currently holds the portfolio of Social Justice and Empowerment Minister.
Patel, a BJP leader from Gujrat, will replace Anandiben Patel, who was holding additional charge of Madhya Pradesh along with being a Governor of Uttar Pradesh.
The Governor of Mizoram PS Sreedharan Pillai has now been appointed as the Governor of Goa, whereas, the Governor of Haryana Satyadev Narayan Arya will now serve as Tripura Governor.
Ramesh Bias, Governor of Tripura has now been transferred and appointed as Governor of Jharkhand. Bandaru Dattatraya, governor of Himachal Pradesh has been appointed as Governor of Haryana and Hari Babu Kambhampati will be Mizoram Governor.
Rajendra Vishwanath Arelkar will now serve as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh.
Meanwhile, as per sources, among those who are likely to be inducted in the new cabinet expansion are Jyotiraditya Scindia, Sarbananda Sonowal, Sushil Modi, Narayan Rane, Bhupendra Yadav and Pashupati Kumar Paras.
As per the report of Indian Express, a cabinet expansion and reshuffle is likely to be held this week. This is going to be the first such expansion after completion of two years of Modi government in power since 2019.
