An American actress named Blake Ellender Lively (Brown) was born on August 25, 1987. Lively, a Los Angeles native who made her acting debut in his 1998 film Sandman, is the daughter of actor Ernie Lively. She played Bridget Vreeland in the critically acclaimed films The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (2005) and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 (2008). She co-starred with Justin Long in the comedy Accepted (2006), and from 2007 to 2012, she portrayed Serena van der Woodsen in the CW teen drama television series Gossip Girl, which helped her achieve fame and wide recognition.
She has acted in romantic comedies including The Private Lives of Pippa Lee (2009) and New York, I Love You (2008). Lively debuted in Green Lantern (2011) alongside her future husband Ryan Reynolds after starring opposite Ben Affleck in the criminal drama The Town (2010). Early Years
Blake Ellender Brown, better known as Lively, was born on August 25, 1987, in the Tarzana section of Los Angeles, California. Her father, Ernie Lively, was an actor, and her mother, Elaine, worked as a talent scout. Her grandmother's brother inspired the name "Lively" for her. She has three half-siblings from her mother's previous marriage: Lori, Robyn, and Jason, as well as an elder brother named Eric. Her siblings and dad have all held jobs in the entertainment business.
Because her parents did not want to leave her with a babysitter, Lively attended acting classes with them as a child. She claimed that learning the "drills" and gaining confidence as she grew older and started working in the profession came from watching her parents teach. 2005–2006: career start-up
In 2005, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants was published. Lively was nominated for a Teen Choice Award for "Choice Movie Breakout - Female" because of her performance. Lively and Justin Long co-starred in the horror movie Accepted in 2006, and Lively also played supporting roles in Simon Says. Although Accepted did not receive favorable reviews from critics, Lively's performance did, and Hollywood Life gave her a "Breakthrough Award." Lively played Anabelle, a bulimic girl who aspired to win a beauty pageant, in the 2007 film Elvis and Anabelle. Lively remarked that she had "shed serious weight" for her height in order to get into character for the part. She claimed that because eating is "my No. 1 love in life," the procedure was challenging for her. She received appreciation for her work in the movie and was given credit for playing a "breakthrough role" by MovieLine.com.
Gossip Girl, 2007–2012
The CW's Gossip Girl, which debuted in September 2007 and was based on the Cecily von Ziegesar novel series of the same name, cast Lively in the lead role. Lively already planned to decline the role and enroll in college, but she was told she could do so while filming the show (she later said, "This is advice to anyone: when they say, 'We promise, but we can't put it in writing,' there's a reason they can't put it in writing"). Up to the show's cancellation in 2012, she portrayed Serena van der Woodsen in the teen drama. Lively returned to the role of Bridget in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 in 2008. Like the first movie, Lively's performance received favorable reviews from critics. She starred in the 2009 romantic comedy New York, I Love You, a follow-up to the 2006 film Paris, je t'aime, as Gabrielle DiMarco.
