Bai Baihe (; pinyin: Bái Bihé, born March 1, 1984) is a Chinese actress. She was one of China's highest-paid film actresses. Her most well-known films include Love is Not Blind, Personal Tailor, Monster Hunt, and Go Away, Mr. Tumor.
Bai was born in the Shandong province of Qingdao. Wendeng Road Elementary School was where she went to school. Bai demonstrated early singing, dancing, and acting abilities. She was accepted into the Beijing Dance Academy at the age of 12. Bai tried out for a role in Zhang Yimou's film Happy Times in 2000. Despite the fact that she was not chosen, Zhang saw potential in her and encouraged her to apply to the Central Academy of Drama, which Bai was admitted to in 2002.
Career
Bai Baihe made her acting debut in the television series Bloom of Youth shortly after graduating from the Central Academy of Drama. (2006). She went on to feature in plays such as Where Is Happiness (2007) and My Youthfulness (2007). (2009).
Bai had his breakthrough in 2011 with the romantic comedy Love Is Not Blind, which also starred Wen Zhang. The low-budget picture was a surprising box office success in China. Bai was named Best Actress at the Hundred Flowers Awards. The following year, she starred in the spy drama Fu Chen and was nominated for Best Actress at the Shanghai Television Festival.
Bai went on to star in Feng Xiaogang's comedy Personal Tailor (2013), which broke box office records on its first day. Bai co-starred in the romantic comedy A Wedding Invitation with Eddie Peng the same year. The film was a box office triumph, and critics lauded Bai for "keeping a character that could easily slip into shrill and childish far from that quagmire." Bai went on to star in the romantic drama film The Stolen Years, for which she gained critical acclaim and was dubbed "mainland Chinese romance-drama royalty."
Bai cemented her position as China's Box Office Queen with Raman Hui's 2015 fantasy-comedy flick Monster Hunt. The film grossed nearly 1.8 billion yuan, making it China's second highest-grossing film. She later appeared in the romantic comedy film Go Away, Mr. Tumor, which was chosen as China's entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 88th Academy Awards. Bai was named Best Actress at the China Film Director's Guild Awards, Beijing Student Film Festival, and Huabiao Awards for her portrayal of a cartoonist fighting illness with a positive attitude.
After ranking second in 2013, Bai topped the list of "Highest Grossing Actresses in China" in 2015. According to Variety, she is the "pretty girl next door with decent acting chops and good comic timing."
Bai co-starred in the 2016 crime caper film Chongqing Hot Pot with Chen Kun. The film gained strong word-of-mouth and critical acclaim, generating 152 million yuan in four days. She went on to star in the romantic film I Belonged to You, which shattered the box office record for mainland-produced romance films.
Bai appeared in Xu Jinglei's action cop thriller The Missing in 2017. During the same year, she appeared in two television shows: the medical drama Surgeons and the romance series Only Side by Side with You.
Bai returned to the position of Monster Hunt in 2018. The picture set the record for the highest single-market box office day. The same year, she starred in Stanley Kwan's women-focused film First Night Nerves.
Bai appeared in the drama film A City Called Macau, directed by Li Shaohong and based on Geling Yan's novel of the same name. Bai's performance earned her a nomination for Best Actress at the Golden Rooster Awards. She appeared in the drama picture Begin, Again the same year.
She will co-star with Wu Xiubo in the romance comedy film A Boyfriend for My Girlfriend.
Private life
On December 26, 2006, Bai Baihe married actor/singer Chen Yufan. In 2004, they met while starring in the Chinese romantic comedy television series Bloom of Youth. Chen Shengtong, their son, was born on January 19, 2008.
Bai Baihe stated on April 16, 2017, that they divorced at the end of 2015.
