Ashley Madekwe is an English actress who was born on December 6, 1983. She is well-known for her performances as Tituba in the WGN drama Salem (2014–2017), Ashley Davenport in the ABC drama Revenge (2011–2013), and Bambi in the ITV2 series Secret Diary of a Call Girl (2008–2010). Madekwe (2019) received a BAFTA Best Supporting Actress nomination for her work in County Lines.
Early Life
Madekwe was raised in West Norwood, a South London council estate, and was born to a Nigerian-Swiss father and an English mother at Mile End Hospital in East London. Madekwe attended the BRIT School after her family relocated to the Norbury suburbs when she was 14 years old. She continued her acting training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree. She performed in several theater productions while she was a student at RADA, including King Henry V as Princess Katherine and Wuthering Heights as Catherine Earnshaw.
Career
Storm Damage was the first film Madekwe appeared in as an actor. 'Jade' was a character in Shan Khan's Prayer Room at Birmingham Repertory Theatre in 2005, not long after she received her degree from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. She has since had cameos on Drop Dead Gorgeous, Teachers, Doctors, and Casualty. The 2007 Woody Allen film Cassandra's Dream gave Madekwe her big screen debut alongside Colin Farrell and Ewan McGregor. After that success, she portrayed Elisha in the one-off drama pilot for BBC Three West 10 LDN and played Ollie in six episodes of Trexx and Flipside. She was cast as Bambi in the ITV2 drama series Secret Diary of a Call Girl in 2008, and she appeared in seasons two and three. How to Lose Friends & Alienate People, a comedy movie from 2008, featured Madekwe as the lead. Little Sweet Thing by Roy Williams and Flight Path by David Watson are among the plays she has performed in.
The drama series The Beautiful Life, which ran just two episodes on The CW before being canceled in 2009, marked Madekwe's formal US debut. She was given the role of Ashley Davenport in the ABC drama series Revenge in February 2011. It was announced in late May 2013 that Madekwe would leave the show after a guest appearance in the first episode of the third season after serving as a regular for the previous two seasons. From 2014 to 2016, she played Tituba in the television show Salem.
Madekwe played Toni in the 2018 British movie County Lines, for which she was nominated for a BAFTA in 2021.
Personal life
Madekwe married her longtime partner, Israeli actor Iddo Goldberg, in June 2012. They collaborated on Secret Diary of a Call Girl, and he and she both appeared in an episode of Salem.
