American actress Ariel Winter Workman was born on January 28, 1998. Her role as Alex Dunphy earned her and her co-stars four straight Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Ensemble in a Comedy Series for the ABC comedy series Modern Family. Additionally, she provided the voice for Penny Peterson in the 2014 animated feature Mr. Peabody and Sherman as well as the title character in the Disney Junior series Sofia the First.
Career
When she was four years old, Winter landed her first job in the entertainment industry in a Cool Whip campaign. She made her acting debut on television in a Listen Up! episode and went on to make appearances on a number of other programmes, including ER, Freddie, Monk, and Bones.
Before landing the regular role of Alex Dunphy in the 2009–2020 television series Modern Family, she provided the voice of Gretchen in the animated children's programme Phineas and Ferb. She has kept up her work in television animation, lending Marina the Mermaid's voice to Disney Junior's Jake and the Never Land Pirates. Winter was hired in 2012 to play Sofia, the star of the then-upcoming Disney animated series Sofia the First. The show made its Disney Junior debut in January 2013.
In the DreamWorks Animation movie Mr. Peabody and Sherman from 2014, she provided the voice of Penny Peterson, Sherman's enemy turned friend. In the animated films Disney's Bambi II and Blue Sky's Ice Age: The Meltdown, she also provided voices for several characters.
Winter has made several appearances in major motion pictures, including Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Speed Racer, Duress, and Opposite Day. She additionally had an appearance in the Halloween-themed television movie Fred 2: Night of the Living Fred. She received a nomination for "Best Actress in a Motion Picture" at the 2012 Young Artist Awards for her starring role in the movie The Chaperone.
Private life
Shanelle Workman, Winter's sister, applied to be Winter's guardian in October 2012 on the grounds that their mother had physically and psychologically abused them. The court permanently withdrew Winter from her mother's custody on May 5, 2014, and granted Workman guardianship. Later, in a statement, their mother said that "the family has moved past the conflict." Winter announced on Twitter that she got emancipated on May 15, 2015, when she was 17 years old.
Winter got breast reduction surgery in June 2015. Winter said in a 2016 interview with ABC News Nightline that, in addition to the back pain that occasionally prevented her from standing up straight, the awkwardness of growing up in the public glare at the age of 12 was "really ostracising and excruciatingly painful." She told Glamour magazine that it was "amazing to finally feel right," describing the improvement the surgery had on her both physically and psychologically. I am just how I should be. Winter attracted media attention in January 2016 when she attended the Screen Actors Guild Awards by donning a Romona Kaveza gown that displayed her incision scars. After leaving the red carpet, she was astonished to see the images the next day and learn that "every headline be about my cleavage and -- not about my talent." "Guys there is a reason I didn't make an effort to cover up my scars!," Winter subsequently tweeted. I am not at all ashamed of them because they are a part of me.
Winter graduated in June 2016 from Campbell Hall School in Los Angeles. She was admitted to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in April 2016 and is expected to start classes there in the 2016 autumn semester. She did, however, state that she will be attending UCLA in the autumn of 2017 on September 12. She gave the following justification for going to college: "You gotta have something else you can do. Law has always piqued my attention, therefore I am certain that I will enjoy practising it and pursuing a degree in it. Winter withdrew from UCLA in 2018 to concentrate on her career. She went to the We Day celebration in Tacoma, Washington, in April 2019.
Winter belongs to the Greek Orthodox faith.
She spent three years with Canadian actor Levi Meaden; their relationship ended in 2019. In Winter's 3,200-square-foot residence in Sherman Oaks, California, the couple shared living space.
She has been dating Luke Benward since the year 2020.
