Anna Sophia Robb, an American actress, model, and singer, was born on December 8, 1993. She started out as a child actor on television, making her lead debut as Samantha: An American Girl Holiday (2004)'s title character. In Because of Winn-Dixie (2005), she made her feature film debut. Then, in Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005), she played the supporting character Violet Beauregarde. She received acclaim for her portrayal of Leslie Burke in Bridge to Terabithia (2007), as well as two Young Artist Awards. Her future film roles include those in Soul Surfer (2011), The Way Way Back (2013), and Race to Witch Mountain (2009). She gained further notoriety and acclaim for portraying Carrie Bradshaw in the title role on The CW's The Carrie Diaries (2013–2014). She portrayed Lacey, Gipsy Blanchard's neighbour, in the Hulu drama The Act in 2019.
Robb was born in Denver, Colorado, the only child of interior designer Janet and architect David Robb. She was given the names Anna Sophie after her maternal great-grandmother and Anna Marie after her paternal grandmother. Robb is of Swedish, Danish, English, Irish, and Scottish ancestry. She was home-schooled and raised in a home that was devoted to Christianity. She developed an interest in acting and started by giving public performances on the stage of her church. She spent four and a half years competing in gymnastics and dance before giving up to concentrate on acting. She graduated in 2012 from Arapahoe High School in Centennial, Colorado.
Career
Robb, who was eight years old when she was discovered by an agency, travelled to Los Angeles with her mother. Robb received an invitation to appear in a national ad for Bratz dolls following a number of tryouts. Robb had a tiny part in the Drake & Josh episode "Number One Fan" after making an appearance in a McDonald's commercial. Samantha: An American Girl Holiday, the television special in which she debuted, featured her in the title role.
Both of Robb's appearances on the big screen in 2005 were based on well-known children's books. In Because of Winn-Dixie and Tim Burton's adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, she played Opal and Violet Beauregarde, respectively. The latter was a huge box office hit that increased Robb's recognition among teenaged audiences.
Robb served as the face of Trad Clothing in 2005, working on the fashion line's design and modelling. She voiced Danielle "Dani" Fenton in a 2006 guest appearance on the animated series Danny Phantom. Robb played Leslie Burke in the Josh Hutcherson-starrer Bridge to Terabithia, which debuted in American theatres on February 16, 2007. She wrote the song "Keep Your Mind Wide Open" for the album, and the Disney Channel regularly aired the music video. Robb's first single to reach the charts, the song reached at number 90 on the Billboard Hot 100 during the week of March 1, 2007. Before being given the part, Robb was a fan of the novel and stated that it "touched me in a way I hadn't been touched by a book before."
Robb later made appearances in Jumper, The Reaping, Have Dreams, Will Travel, and Spy School. Although the movie received mixed reviews overall, Robb's performance in Sleepwalking was praised. "There is a wonderful range to Robb's work...this is extraordinarily mature acting from someone this young and she wins our sympathy without ever begging for it," observed Time film critic Richard Schickel. She recorded Mary Magdalene's voice for The Word of Promise: Next Generation: Dramatised Audio Bible in 2008. In 2009's Race to Witch Mountain, she also had a leading role. She made an appearance in The Space Between in 2010. She later played Bethany Hamilton, a surfer who kept surfing despite losing her arm in a shark attack, in the movie Soul Surfer.
Robb was set to play Wendy Darling in Pan when it was first revealed in May 2011, however she eventually withdrew from the movie. On February 3, 2012, it was revealed that Robb has been cast in the movie Life at These Speeds. Later that month, Robb starred in the teen comedy The Way, Way Back and was cast as the young Carrie Bradshaw in The CW's Sex and the City prequel, The Carrie Diaries.
A Conspiracy on Jekyll Island, in which Robb co-stars with Frank Grillo, Ed Westwick, Dianna Agron, John Leguizamo, Minnie Driver, and Maggie Q, began filming in October 2013. Aram Rappaport is the director, and Hilary Shor, Atit Shah, and Aaron Becker are the producers. In 2017, it was published as The Crash.
From 2016 to 2017, Robb played Alice Green in the PBS Civil War historical drama Mercy Street.
Personal life
Robb began attending New York University in his personal life in 2014, and he graduated in 2018. Robb posted on Instagram on September 7, 2021, that she and her fiancé Trevor Paul were getting engaged. On September 10, 2022, a year after becoming engaged, they were wed in a three-day ceremony in New York's Catskill and Shawangunk Mountains.
