Alyson Rae Stoner, an American actress, singer, and dancer, was born on August 11, 1993. Cheaper by the Dozen (2003), Cheaper by the Dozen 2 (2005), and the Step Up series (2006–2014) are a few of the movies in which she has appeared. Her television roles include voicing Isabella Garcia-Shapiro in Phineas and Ferb from 2007 to 2015, hosting Disney Channel's Mike's Super Short Show from 2001 to 2007, playing Max in The Suite Life of Zack & Cody from 2005 to 2007, and playing Caitlyn in Camp Rock (2008) and Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam (2010).
For several musicians, including Missy Elliott, Eminem, Kumbia Kings, Outkast, and Will Smith, Stoner has performed as a background dancer. She provided the voice for the animated television specials Holly Hobbie & Friends (2006–2008) and the Kingdom Hearts franchise (2008–2020). Twelve singles and two extended plays have already been released by her.
Stoner was born in Toledo, Ohio. She is the daughter of Charlie Stoner and LuAnne Hodges, a longtime executive secretary at Owens-Illinois. Growing up in Toledo, Stoner attended Maumee Valley Country Day School and trained at the O'Connell's Dance Studio in ballet, tap, and jazz dance. At the Margaret O'Brien Modeling Studio, she also received modeling instruction. In 2000, she was represented by O'Brien's studio and won Best Model of the Year at the International Modeling and Talent Association Convention in New York City.
Careers In Singing And Acting
In 2001, Stoner and Michael Alan Johnson joined as co-hosts of the Disney Channel's Mike's Super Short Show, an infomercial for upcoming Disney films. She starred in the popular comedies Cheaper by the Dozen and Cheaper by the Dozen 2 in 2003 and 2005 as Sarah, one of the twelve Baker kids. She has also made appearances in a number of teen-oriented television programs, such as Drake & Josh, That's So Raven, and The Suite Life of Zack & Cody.
She played Camille, the younger foster sister of Channing Tatum's character, in the 2006 movie Step Up. From 2007 to 2015, she provided the voices of Jenny and Isabella Garcia-Shapiro (up until Season 4) in the Disney Channel animated comedy Phineas and Ferb. She played Caitlyn Gellar, a wannabe music producer, in the Disney Channel Original movie Camp Rock from 2008. Her reception in Camp Rock was very positive, with several media sources commenting that it was about time she portrayed the main character after supporting stars like Will Smith and Eminem. In the film Alice Upside Down, which was partially inspired on the Alice series, particularly The Agony of Alice by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor, Stoner played Alice McKinley. She claims in an interview that is included on the direct-to-DVD release that this was her second leading role and that it was the first time she had to be in every scene of a film.
She sang two songs from the soundtrack of the 2008 film Alice Upside Down, in which she portrays the protagonist character, namely "Lost and Found" and "Free Spirit". For the 2009 Disney DVD/Blu-ray film Space Buddies, she also recorded a cover of the song Dancing in the Moonlight. In 2010, Stoner returned the role in the third Step Up movie, Step Up 3D, costarring Adam Sevani. Stoner posted a video of her final dance rehearsal, in which she introduced the other cast members, on her official YouTube page. In the same year, Stoner made a comeback to reprise her Caitlyn Gellar character in the Camp Rock sequel, Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam. Additionally, Stoner played a skater in a special appearance on the hit drama series House.
For her debut studio album, Stoner began working with record producers, songwriters, and a vocal coach in 2011, changing her singing style from "kiddie-pop" to a more soulful pop vibe with a touch of alternative edge. Stoner announced in a video on her YouTube channel on April 4 that her debut single "Flying Forward" would be released on April 20. Beat the System, Stoner's debut EP, was released in 2011. She also demonstrated balance exercises in Wii Fit-related videos on the Nintendo Channel for the Wii video game console. As the voice of Kairi in Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories, Xion in Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, and both characters in Kingdom Hearts III, Stoner took Hayden Panettiere's position. In seasons three and four of The Legend of Korra, she provided the voice for Opal.
Dancing
After receiving instruction in choreography in Los Angeles, Stoner performed as a backup dancer in various music videos, including those for the Kumbia Kings' "No Tengo Dinero," "Gossip Folks," "I'm Really Hot," and "Work It" by Missy Elliott. She has also performed as a backup dancer for Will Smith in 2005 and Outkast at the Kids' Choice Awards in 2004. Between 2003 and 2006, Stoner performed with The JammX Kids, a dance crew. Due to schedule issues, she left the group at the beginning of 2006, but she still collaborates with the individual children on various projects. She also performed as one of the dancers in the Shark Tale DVD's bonus features.
Stoner is recognized as the youngest instructor of a master class at the Millennium Dance Complex, where she conducts hip-hop classes. She also made an appearance in Debby Ryan's "We Got the Beat" for Radio Rebel on the Disney Channel. Her Missy Elliott tribute film, which featured a mix of Missy Elliott videos she had danced in when she was younger, was released in February 2015. It earned over 12 million views in the first week. At the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards, Missy Elliott invited Alyson to sing "Work It" with her.
KEWL Magazine's "dance editor" was Publishing Stoner. The Alyson Stoner Project, dubbed "a dance video hybrid — melding many styles of entertainment into one package" was released by Stoner in February 2009. Kevin Schmidt, her co-star from Cheaper by the Dozen, was the director.
Private Life
Sexuality
Stoner came out in a Teen Vogue story published in March 2018 and declared she was "attracted to men, women, and people who identify in other ways." In an interview conducted later that year, she said, "I don't feel comfortable labeling my sexual orientation or even my faith at the moment."
Health
Stoner has been candid about her battles with food disorders and mental illness. According to Stoner, she experienced heart palpitations, hair loss, and seizures as early as age 6 as a result of the high-stress environment of working in the entertainment industry.
She battled anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating disorder for years before being hospitalized and checking herself into a treatment facility for eating disorders in 2011. She was 17 years old at the time. She attributes her healing to the therapy.
