She first gained notoriety for her lead role as Keely Teslow in the Disney Channel sitcom Phil of the Future (2004–2006). Aly Michalka went on to make appearances in a number of movies, including The Lears (2017), Grown Ups 2 (2013), Sequoia (2014), Weepah Way for Now (2015), and Bandslam (2009). She starred in the Hallmark Channel Original Movie Sand Dollar Cove (2021) as well as the CW crime drama series iZombie (2015–2019) and comedy drama Hellcats (2010–2011).
She and her sister AJ Michalka make up the musical duo Aly & AJ, also known as 78violet.

Early Life

California's Torrance is where Michalka was born. Together with her younger sister, Amanda Joy "AJ", who is also an actor and musician, she grew up in Southern California and Seattle, Washington. Her mother, Carrie, is a musician who has played with the Christian rock band "JC Band," and her father, Mark, operates a contracting business. Her parents have split up.
Michalka began playing the guitar at the age of thirteen and the piano when she was five years old. When she was five years old, she began performing in church plays. She came from a Christian family.

Career
On the Disney Channel's Phil of the Future in 2004, Michalka was given the part of Keely Teslow. On June 18, 2004, the show made its debut. Disney Channel canceled the show in August 2006 after two seasons. She also starred in the Disney Channel original film Now You See It... and co-starred with her sister in the television film Cow Belles. Michalka and her sister appeared in a number of Disney Channel and MTV productions. They starred in the 2007 MTV movie Super Sweet 16: The Movie, which was based on the MTV show My Super Sweet 16. She co-starred in the Walden Media movie Bandslam in August 2009. The cheerleading drama series Hellcats cast Michalka in the lead role of Marti Perkins, according to an announcement made by The CW in April 2010. Despite a strong start, the show's ratings declined, and The CW confirmed in May 2011 that it had not been renewed for a second season. On CSI: NY in 2011, Michalka had a guest appearance. Michalka played significant supporting roles in the movies Easy A and The Roommate in 2010 and 2011, respectively. Alongside Eva Longoria, Virginia Madsen, and Amanda Crew, Michalka starred in the independent movie Crazy Kind of Love in 2013.
On the comedy series Two and a Half Men in 2013, Michalka took part in a role that spanned multiple episodes. She and her sister worked on the casting and production of the independent drama Weepah Way for Now, which they shot in Laurel Canyon, California, in July 2014. Her husband, Stephen Ringer, wrote and directed the film, which had its world premiere on June 16 at the Los Angeles Film Festival. For the first and second seasons of the CW show iZombie, Michalka played a recurring part; for the third season, she joined the cast on a regular basis. She was announced as a cast member for the comedy movie The Lears, which is an adaption of the Shakespeare play King Lear, on April 19, 2016.

Music
Primary Article Aly & AJ
The musical duet Aly & AJ was founded in 2004 by Michalka and her sister AJ. On August 16, 2005, they issued their debut album, Into the Rush. Acoustic Hearts of Winter, a holiday album with two original songs and two cover songs, was published by them in September 2006. Their third album, Insomniatic, which featured the top 20 smash single "Potential Breakup Song" on the Billboard charts, was released in July 2007. After changing their name to 78violet, the duo had plans to release a fourth album in the early half of 2010, however after leaving Hollywood Records, the project never happened. They later released their first song, "Hothouse," on July 8, 2013, some years later, in the summer of 2013. They announced that they had changed their name back to "Aly & AJ" in December 2015. They announced in April 2016 that they would be releasing brand-new music for a future studio album. They debuted a new song titled "Take Me" on June 2, 2017. It served as their EP's lead song and was scheduled for release on July 14, 2017. They published it on May 7, 2021. You can get up and enter the sun with just a touch of the beat.
