Aimee Carrero, a Dominican actress, was born on July 15, 1988. She is well-known for providing the voices of Adora/She-Ra in the Netflix series She-Ra and the Princesses of Power and Princess Elena on the Disney Channel's Elena of Avalor. She has played live action parts in cartoon network's Level Up and the sitcoms Sofia Rodriguez on Freeform's Young & Hungry.
Carrero was raised in Miami, Florida after being born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic to a Dominican mother and a Puerto Rican father. She graduated with a degree in international relations in 2008 from Florida International University.
Career
She made an appearance in the 2009 full-length movie Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel. The Mentalist, Lincoln Heights, Men of a Certain Age, The Middle, Greek, Zeke and Luther, and Baby Daddy are just a few of the television shows that Carrero has appeared in. She was chosen to play Angie in the live-action Level Up cartoon on Cartoon Network in 2011. In the ensuing television series of the same name, she reprised her role. The first two seasons of the show finished in 2013.
Carrero appeared in the Blue Lagoon: The Awakening Lifetime television movie in 2012. She made her Off-Broadway debut in the world premiere production of What Rhymes with America by Atlantic Theater Company that same year in December. She co-starred in the slasher movie Devil's Due in 2014. In addition, Carrero played the Sandinista freedom warrior Lucia in a recurring role in the second season of the FX series The Americans. Additionally, she was chosen for the ABC Family comedy Young & Hungry, which stars Emily Osment.
For the Disney Channel series Elena of Avalor, it was revealed in January 2015 that Carrero would be lending her voice to Elena, the company's first Latina fairy tale princess. The show, which debuted on July 22, 2016, is a spin-off of the Disney Junior program Sofia the First. In April 2016, it was revealed that Carrero would co-star with Ashley Tisdale as Sofia in a prospective Young & Hungry spinoff series titled Young & Sofia. The concept, however, was never taken out of the backdoor pilot stage.
In the 2018 Netflix animated series reboot of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, Carrero was chosen to voice Adora, the series' central character. Carrero had the lead role in Exandria Unlimited, a spinoff of the web series Critical Role, which ran from June to August of 2021. She played the same part again in the two-part Exandria Unlimited: Kymal special in March 2022.
Carerro was cast in a recurring role as Danielle in the drama series Maid, which launched on Netflix on October 1, 2021 and was based on Stephanie Land's novel Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother's Will to Survive. She plays a domestic abuse survivor who becomes friends with Margaret Qualley's character Alex in the women's shelter. Fans and critics of the program lauded Danielle as a "fiercely determined character" and "another young mom at the domestic violence shelter who quite literally gets Alex back on her feet"; nevertheless, they also pointed out that her tale was never finished, leaving the audience to wonder what happened to her.
In 2022, she made cameo appearances in Spirited and Mark Mylod's The Menu.
Carrero received the Breakout Performance Award at the Newport Beach Film Festival on October 16, 2022.
Personal life
She and actor Tim Rock got engaged in November 2015. Their marriage took place in August 2016.
