Not every performer has the chance to become an EGOT—winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Award—status. Musicians are most likely to pull it off because even Grammy Award-winning actors rarely win them for normal actors. Adele is one performer who is very close to earning the entire EGOT. The musician has 15 Grammys, an Oscar, and three Emmys. But she asserts that she will never be a Tony winner.
The singer was reportedly asked if she would ever go onstage to compete for that grand prize while at a fan event to mark the premiere of her "I Drink Wine" music video, according to Broadway World.
She admitted, "I can't lie people, I'm not a huge Broadway lover. Although I've seen a few plays, I don't believe I've seen enough. "I know, I know. I'm talking about musicals though."
She would, however, consider performing in one production if the appropriate character came along: Gypsy's Rose, the demanding stage mom with lots of huge numbers.
Adele said of the character of the mother in Gypsy: "I watched [Gypsy] in London and I really adore the mum in it. She has a song when she was like, 'I wanted to do all of this,' and she's envious of her own daughter and she's so caught up in it. At one bit, she was just a b**** in it which I could nail.
I was wondering, do I just move the show from Vegas to Broadway and win the Tony? I actually prefer the sound of an EGO than an EGOT because it's fun. But never say never. If I move to New York, I get bored, I'll be on that stage in a hot second, she added. "I don't think I've seen enough [Broadway] as a grown up to know if I would want to do it," she said.
She said, "You would never be able to keep up with the pace on Broadway," which is a major statement because Bette Midler is one of Adele's inspirations. "Because I'm so lazy. I'm so notoriously lazy. I would not be able to do matinees and all that. I don't have the endurance for it," Adele continued. However, the singer will begin her residency in Las Vegas this year, where she will have a somewhat busy schedule.
